VB Museum of Art offers a bounty of events throughout the holidays

arts & entertainment

Celebrate this holiday season with a variety of programs and events available at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

First, you have the whimsical Roadside Reverie: Glass Works by John Miller exhibition. Feast your eyes on more than 40 large-scale glass sculptures comprising hundreds of individually molded and blown glass components artfully designed and playfully assembled by glass artist John Miller.  Roadside Reverie spans four of Miller’s artistic series: “Hot Stuff,” “The Blue Plate Special,” “Do Not Duplicate,” and “Classic Heat”—created from 2008 to 2024. The artworks reflect his fascination with and personal connection to American automotive and food culture and the Pop Art movement of the 1960s. According to VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell. “One body of work focuses on car culture, including hood ornaments, car keys, and tools, while the other features diner food such as hamburgers, fries, condiments, and other diner fare and accoutrements—all made from glass.”

A series of presentation will be offered during the exhibition’s run that ends January 5.

The next presentation, “The Art of the Cocktail-Glass Gimlet,” will be held on Friday, November 12, 6:30 p.m. Guests will immerse themselves in the theme of the evening through a lively docent-guided talk, exhibition exploration and finally, by creating a carefully selected cocktail with an expert mixologist. Participants must be 21 years of age or older. Tickets are available to VBMA members for $40 per class, and non-member tickets are available for $50.

Next, on Saturday, November 16 at 3:00 p.m., a performance by Ballet Vero Beach will present “Classic Heat: Dance Works” inspired by the Roadside Reverie exhibition. Ballet Vero Beach electrifies the VBMA stage with a colection of works that explore the spirit of the 1960s, including two new works choreographed by Ballet VB dancers Marlyse Noble and Darien Santos and a reworked version of Artistic Director Adam Schnell’s Crimson & Clover, never before seen in Vero Beach. Tickets for VBMA and Ballet Vero Beach members are $30, non-members for $36, which includes Museum admission.

On Wednesday, November 20 at 12 noon, VBMA will present “Art Talk-Drive-in Nostalgia.” Join VBMA docents for an in-depth focus on select artworks from the Roadside Reverie: Glass Works by John Miller exhibition. Docents will meet registered participants in front of the Atrium, then head to the galleries for 45-60 minutes of careful viewing and discussion. The program is free to members, $12 per person for non-members and includes Museum admission.
