Arts, entertainment and fun in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Indian River County as compiled by the Cultural Council of Indian River County for Feb 1 – 8.

Environmental Learning Center offers Roger L. Hammer Native Wildflower Photography Exhibit on view through 2/28, with a special Luncheon and Book Signing on 2/15, 11am. Roger L. Hammer, an award-winning professional naturalist, botanist, photographer, author, and television survivalist.

Known for his vibrant personality and deep expertise, Roger’s life’s work celebrates Florida’s rich natural heritage while inspiring others to explore and protect it.   As a survivalist instructor on Discovery Channel’s Naked & Afraid, Roger shares his unparalleled knowledge of the natural world in extreme environments. His adventurous spirit and passion for the outdoors are matched by his artistic talents, evident in his photography and illustrations that capture the breathtaking beauty of Florida’s flora and fauna.

Riverside Theatre offers Live in the Loop on 2/1, 2/6, 2/7, 2/8, 5:30pm. Riverside Theatre’s FREE outdoor music venue with local musicians playing Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Bands TBD

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers TWW: Fantasy & Science Fiction on 2/1, 9:30am. Teen writers workshop focused on fantasy and science fiction.

Garden Club of Indian River County offers Gardenfest! On 2/1 & 2/2 beginning at 10am in Riverside Park. Featuring more than 80 vendors, with plants, flowers, orchids, trees & pottery, just to name a few.

Vero Beach Art Club offers Art In The Park on 2/2, 10am. Fine Art & Crafts Exhibit presented by Artist from the Vero Beach Art Club. Located at Humiston Park on Ocean Drive in Vero Beach, Art in the Park provides the perfect opportunity for visitors and residents to interact with our Artists and Craft Artisans and to purchase beautiful, original artwork.

Emerson Center offers Winter Edition Exhibition on 2/2, 5:30pm. The Emerson Gallery is proud to announce the Winter Edition Exhibition, running from January 30, 2025, to March 5, 2025. This exhibition will showcase the diverse and imaginative artwork created by members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach. 

AAUW Vero Beach offers Book Review Breakfast: A Fresh Look at ‘The Color Purple’ on 2/3, 9:30am at the Richardson Center at Indian River State College in Vero Beach. Come get a fresh look at The Color Purple. Dr. Angie Bailey, Professor in the School of Business, Indian River State College, will review The Color Purple, by Alice Walker.

Emerson Center offers E-Series Speaker: Danielle Montesdeoca with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on 2/4, 4pm. Get ready for a riveting dive into Florida’s wildest ecosystems as the Emerson Center welcomes Danielle Montesdeoca, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Montesdeoca’s presentation will reveal the focused efforts to protect Florida’s ecosystems from invasive species and the innovative strategies in place to manage this ongoing challenge.

North Indian River County Library offers Silent Book Club – Sebastian on 2/4, 6pm. Silence is Golden, Reading is Bliss! Silent Book Club is a global community of readers that meet once a month to read silently, together. No monthly picks, no forced interaction. Just like minded readers getting lost in the world of books, alone, together. Beverages and snacks provided, but feel free to BYO!  No registration required to attend.

Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County in conjunction with Mandy and Ray Hooker invite you to a viewing at Indian River Distillery, 3308 Aviation Blvd. in Vero Beach.  Exhibit Theme: “Old Florida”. Label Competition on view through Feb 27. Featured Artists: Merana Cadorette, Ella Chabot, Elise Geary, Mary Ann Hall, Gwen McNenney, Darrell Remole, Joe Thomas & Mariya Yankovich. The winner of the label competition will be revealed at a special event on Feb. 26 at the Heritage Center.  Limited-edition signature bottles of vodka will be available for sale.

Laura (Riding) Jackson Historic Home & Garden offers Historic Home Tours on 2/4, 1pm
Laura Riding Jackson’s historic home is open for tours from November through April each year. You can drop by on Tuesday’s or the second Sunday of each month 1pm-5pm and our amazing volunteer docents will give you a tour! We can accommodate groups of 8 or fewer as drop-ins; to bring a larger group for a tour, please reserve in advance.

Mckee Botanical Garden offers Sean Kenney’s Nature Pop!® Made with LEGO® bricks Exhibition on view through 5/4. Featuring 40 sculptures made with over 800,000 LEGO; Bricks and explores the beauty of nature through contemporary, stylized, and colorful displays that stand in striking contrast with their surroundings.

Riverside Theatre offers Master Class on through 2/23, show times vary. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, Master Class tells the story of opera diva, Maria Callas, as she teaches a life-altering master class to students at an elite opera school. During the class, she encounters three students who are crushed, uplifted, and inspired by her artistry. Based on a series of real-life classes Callas delivered at Juilliard, Master Class is a window into the soul of one of the most complicated and celebrated artists of the 20th century.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 on view through June 22.  This winter, the internationally touring French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950, makes its first-ever stop in southeast Florida at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

The exhibition showcases 59 artworks from the Brooklyn Museum’s esteemed collection of European art, spanning the era between the Revolution of 1848 and the conclusion of World War II-a period marked by significant social, intellectual, and political upheaval in France.  The exhibition highlights the avant-garde movements that shaped modern art in the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring works by renowned artists native to France, as well as those who studied and exhibited there.

Environmental Learning Center offers Mama Mia Movie Night on 2/6, 6pm. Join us for a movie night featuring Mama Mia! A musical comedy starring Meryl Streep who plays an independent hotelier in the Greek islands and is preparing for her daughter’s wedding. Nibble on snacks, sip cocktails, and warm up by our campfire for a fun evening of Greek inspiration!

North Indian River County Library offers Chat & Chew- Social Hour on 2/7, 10:30am. Join the North IRC Library for a casual, drop-in social hour on the FIRST FRIDAY of every month. Enjoy complimentary coffee and snacks while connecting with your neighbors. No RSVP needed! This is a relaxed opportunity to meet new people and enjoy friendly conversation.

Center for Spiritual Care offers ARTIVISM – Sculptor Dana King Celebrates Black History Month on 2/7, 5pm. This is the opening reception for nationally renowned sculptor, Dana King. Dana was a award winner news reporter who now exhibits her amazing talent and activism by creating black bodies in bronze. She does this to commemorate and educate others about black people who have made great progress in the Civil Rights Movement in America. The Artivism exhibit runs through the month of February.

Environmental Learning Center offers Valentine’s Mangrove Magic on 2/7, 5pm. Illuminated Trails: Wander through thousands of twinkling lights along scenic trails.

Campfire & Smores: Gather around the fire, tell stories, and make outdoor memories. Valentine’s Day Crafts: Crafts that are fun for all ages. Mangrove Magic Encounter: For an extra touch of magic, a guide will take you through lit mangrove tunnels in a canoe, an experience not to be missed.

Environmental Learning Center offers Broadway Babies on 2/8, 9am. Featuring Mommy-and-Me style musical theatre class for 0-4 years. Bop to the beat of Broadway Showtunes! We wear costumes, play instruments, do improv games with puppets, and of course, sing and dance!

McKee Botanical Garden offers 16th Annual Motor Car Exhibition ‘Red Car Show’ on 2/8, 10am. 40 “Red” automobiles (all makes and models) will be on display in the Garden. Enjoy an opportunity to speak with the owners of these amazing cars. There will also be a collection of “red” motorcycles on display.

Gifford Youth Orchestra offers Black History Month Program on 2/8, 1pm at the Gifford Community Center.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers Ballet Vero Beach on 2/8, 3pm. Ballet Vero Beach presents an evening of world and company premiere works in the Leonhardt Auditorium.

Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce offers Sunset Saturday Concert on 2/8, 5pm on Ocean Drive near Humiston Park.

Cultural Council of Indian River County offers The Art of Distilling on 2/26, 6pm at the Vero Heritage Center. This fundraiser and celebratory product reveal event will announce the winners of the community wide label design and naming competition on a limited-edition signature vodka created by Indian River Distillery as a special batch. Proceeds from the event and the donations towards this unique vodka will directly fund CCIRC’s programs supporting art and culture. This collaboration with Indian River Distillery is a creative way to champion local talent and innovation while raising funds for a meaningful cause. Dress to impress for our roaring 20’s theme!
