Arts, entertainment and fun in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Indian River County as compiled by the Cultural Council of Indian River County for Feb 15-22.

Center for Spiritual Care offers ARTIVISM – Sculptor Dana King Celebrates Black History Month.  Exhibition runs through the month of February. Dana was a award winner news reporter who now exhibits her amazing talent and activism by creating black bodies in bronze. She does this to commemorate and educate others about black people who have made great progress in the Civil Rights Movement in America.

AAUW of Vero Beach offers What is “higher education” today? on 2/15, 11:30am at the Richardson Center at Indian River State College in Vero Beach. Teri Graham, President, IRSC and Christi Shields, Director, Treasure Coast Technical College, will discuss Trends in Higher Education at a speaker luncheon.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers 44th Asbury Shorts Film Concert on 2/15, 1:30pm. Asbury Shorts USA is New York City’s longest running non-competitive short film showcase and touring show.

Riverside Theatre offers Live in the Loop on 2/15, 2/20, 2/21, 2/22, 5:30pm. Riverside Theatre’s FREE outdoor music venue with local musicians playing Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. Bands TBD

Environmental Learning Center offers Roger L. Hammer Meet & Greet on 2/15, 11 a.m.  Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with Roger and be inspired by his remarkable work. There will be a book signing following lunch, at 1 pm. Space is limited and we expect this to fill up quickly!  Roger L. Hammer Native Wildflower Photography Exhibit on view through 2/28, with a special Luncheon and Book Signing on 2/15, 11am. Roger L. Hammer, an award-winning professional naturalist, botanist, photographer, author, and television survivalist.

Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County in conjunction with Mandy and Ray Hooker invite you to a viewing at Indian River Distillery, 3308 Aviation Blvd. in Vero Beach.  Exhibit Theme: “Old Florida”. Label Competition on view through Feb 27. Featured Artists: Merana Cadorette, Ella Chabot, Elise Geary, Mary Ann Hall, Gwen McNenney, Darrell Remole, Joe Thomas & Mariya Yankovich. The winner of the label competition will be revealed at a special event on Feb. 26 at the Heritage Center.  Limited-edition signature bottles of vodka will be available for sale.


Vero Beach Art Club offers Art in the Park on 2/16, 10am. Fine Art & Crafts Exhibit at Humiston Park on Ocean Drive in Vero Beach, Art in the Park provides the perfect opportunity for visitors and residents to interact with our Artists and Craft Artisans and to purchase beautiful, original artwork.

Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church offers Broadway Concert on 2/16, 3pm & 7pm. World-renowned opera star Susan Neves, along with rising star soprano Diana Flores, and acclaimed tenors Edmund Nalzaro and Fernando Silva will be delighting the audience with highly enjoyable music from some of the best musicals from Broadway. Marcos Flores on the piano, and Gully Shell on percussion will provide the orchestration with lights, cameras, and action for the 2 performances available for this very popular concert.

Indian River County Library offers 32nd Annual Indian River County Library Art Exhibit beginning on 2/19. A quarterly Fine Arts & Crafts exhibition and sale by Vero Beach Art Club Artists.

Riverside Theatre offers Master Class on through 2/23, show times vary. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play, Master Class tells the story of opera diva, Maria Callas, as she teaches a life-altering master class to students at an elite opera school. During the class, she encounters three students who are crushed, uplifted, and inspired by her artistry. Based on a series of real-life classes Callas delivered at Juilliard, Master Class is a window into the soul of one of the most complicated and celebrated artists of the 20th century.

Mckee Botanical Garden offers Sean Kenney’s Nature Pop!® Made with LEGO® bricks Exhibition on view through 5/4. Featuring 40 sculptures made with over 800,000 LEGO; Bricks and explores the beauty of nature through contemporary, stylized, and colorful displays that stand in striking contrast with their surroundings.

Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County on exhibit Indian River County Administration Buildings A and B. “Bring on the Cheer” is the theme. Featured Artists include Ella Chabot, Tony Caruso, Darryl Remole, Pat Willis, Janet Grossarth. On view through March 13.

Melbourne Municipal Band offers Diamond Anniversary Concert on 2/19, 7pm at the Melbourne Auditorium. Join us as we celebrate the MMB’s 60th anniversary with guest conductor Dr. David Gregory, soprano soloist Rachel Murphy, tenor soloist Fred Kilgallin, as well as a surprise guest conductor. You’ll hear music from Le Mis, Puccini’s Nessun Dorma and more! This is sure to be a dramatic and moving concert. FREE CONCERT.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers Timeless: Robert Farber’s Fashion Photography.  Exhibition runs through 8/31.  Robert Farber’s professional practice spans commercial and fine art photography, with subject matter ranging from fashion and portraits to still life and landscapes. The works featured in Timeless are drawn from two major bodies of work: his Vintage Fashion series, captured during commercial shoots, and the Deterioration series, which consists of prints from his earlier fashion photography.

Live from Vero Beach offers Ticket to the Moon World’s Best ELO Tribute on 2/20, 7pm at the Emerson Center.

Vero Beach Art Club offers Veterans Art Classes on 2/20, 6pm. Open to Veterans interested in learning how to paint, draw, and use art as a form of therapy.  Sign up is strongly encouraged so we may prepare accordingly. Free for Veterans, First Responders, and Spouses of Veterans and First Responders.   Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced artists welcome!

First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach offers Hanneke Cassel, with Mike Block and Jacob Craig on 2/20, 7:30pm. Hanneke Cassel, U.S National Scottish Fiddle Champion, Mike Block, Grammy Award-Winning cellist, and Jacob Craig, jazz pianist, play exciting original and traditional music drawing from Celtic, Americana, and Classical backgrounds.

North Indian River County Library offers Blockbuster Movie Day on 2/21, 1:30pm. Join us to watch a recent release and enjoy free popcorn and water provided by the Friends of the North IRC Library. Admission is free and there is no registration required to attend.

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers AWW: Book Talk & Writing Combo on 2/22, 9:30am. An adult writers workshop featuring a two part event, book talk and writing.

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers Pirates on 2/22, 1pm. Non-fiction author, blogger, former Navy SEAL, and piracy expert, Benerson Little, will discuss his decades-long career studying and writing about piracy, both historical and modern. Part Two (3pm-5pm) of this event will mirror the traditional format of LRJF’s Adult Writing Workshops, focusing on combining blogging with full-length book writing.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 on view through June 22.  This winter, the internationally touring French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950, makes its first-ever stop in southeast Florida at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. The exhibition showcases 59 artworks from the Brooklyn Museum’s esteemed collection of European art, spanning the era between the Revolution of 1848 and the conclusion of World War II-a period marked by significant social, intellectual, and political upheaval in France.  The exhibition highlights the avant-garde movements that shaped modern art in the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring works by renowned artists native to France, as well as those who studied and exhibited there.

Cultural Council of Indian River County offers The Art of Distilling on 2/26, 6pm at the Vero Heritage Center. This fundraiser and celebratory product reveal event will announce the winners of the community wide label design and naming competition on a limited-edition signature vodka created by Indian River Distillery as a special batch. Proceeds from the event and the donations towards this unique vodka will directly fund CCIRC’s programs supporting art and culture. This collaboration with Indian River Distillery is a creative way to champion local talent and innovation while raising funds for a meaningful cause. Dress to impress for our roaring 20’s theme! Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County is on exhibit at the Indian River County Courthouse, 2000 16th Avenue, Vero Beach. Deutilization Conceptualism: is a solo art exhibit by Viktor Genel.  Exhibit on view through May 8.
