Experimental sound artist Aric Attas will offer a “truly unique” live performance created in collaboration with orchids and other plants Thursday, Feb. 27 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Care. The Center is located at 1550 24th St., at the corner of 16th Ave. and 24th St. A $15.00 per person donation will be accepted.
Attas is internationally recognized for his sound installations, which generate ambient music based on data input from the natural world. Each of his compositions tells a multidimensional story about a slice of the cosmos through data and sound. His visionary compositions have earned him commissions and presentations throughout the United States and in England.
His Vero Beach event will include a brief guided meditation, according to Center director Carol Ludwig. “This event, which Aric calls ‘Symbiotic,’ will be a truly unique listening experience,” she says.
“Symbiotic is a series of live generative music performances and recordings created in collaboration with plants,” Attas says. “I translate the electrical vibrations within plants into audible music that allows us to hear the otherwise silent symphony of nature and to experience our connection with it.”
The music that emerges from this collaboration, unlike traditional recorded music, is generative. It exists only in the present moment. It evolves infinitely through adaptive generative algorithms that respond in real-time to data received from live plants. There is no fast forward or rewind, only the present moment.
“What happens,” Attas says, “is a deeper connection between ourselves and the natural world.”
