Arts, entertainment and fun in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Indian River County as compiled by the Cultural Council of Indian River County for Apr. 5 – 12

Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County in conjunction with Mandy and Ray Hooker invite you to a viewing at Indian River Distillery, 3308 Aviation Blvd. in Vero Beach.  Exhibit Theme: “Old Florida” on view through May 29.  Featured Artists include Judy Burgarella, Merana Cadorette and Mary Carter.

Environmental Learning Center offers Guided Kayak Excursions on Apr. 5; Apr. 9 & Apr. 12 @ 9 a.m. Join a trained nature guide and paddle the serene waters of the Indian River Lagoon exploring this unique ecosystem with abundant wildlife and hidden mangrove tunnels! All gear provided.

Sunrise Rotary offers 2nd Annual Treasure Coast Spirits Festival on Apr. 5, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Airport Drive in Vero Beach. The event will include a “meet and taste” with up to 30+ of Florida’s BEST craft distillers, mouthwatering appetizers, cigar lounge, bottle sales, and more! Come and enjoy a great day outdoors with your friends tasting some of Florida’s BEST distilled libations!

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers 14th Annual Poetry and BBQ on Apr. 5, 2:30 p.m. One of the most popular events each season is the Poetry and Barbeque, held in April in honor of National Poetry Month. This event combines great poetry, live music, delicious barbeque, and a silent auction and raffle that helps us raise funds to support LRJF programming.

Center for Spiritual Care offers Ceramics Invitational on view through Apr. 30.  Exhibit by 6 talented local artists who display their beautiful ceramics. The artists include: Walford Campbell, Sean & Sharon Sexton, Maria Sparsis, Ginnie Peach Street and Glenda Taylor.

Riverside Theatre offers Live in the Loop – Riverside Theatre’s FREE outdoor music venue with local musicians playing Thurs., Fri. and Sat. evenings at 5:30 p.m.; Apr. 5 – Blunatics; Apr. 10 – 20th Street Jazz Band; Apr. 11 – Murphy’s Law; April 12 – 3 O’clock Storm.

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers AWW – Sound: Your Body on Words Apr. 6, 9:30 a.m. The sounds of words have an emotional effect on speaker and listener alike. In this workshop we will take a writerly look at the physiology of sound so that we might begin to make more rational decisions in the diction and syntax of our own poems, stories, essays, and novels. Vero Beach Art Club offers Art in the Park on Apr. 6, 10 a.m. Fine Art & Crafts Exhibit located at Humiston Park on Ocean Drive in Vero Beach, Art in the Park provides the perfect opportunity for visitors and residents to interact with our Artists and Craft Artisans and to purchase beautiful, original artwork.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950 on view through June 22.  This winter, the internationally touring French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850-1950, makes its first-ever stop in southeast Florida at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

The exhibition showcases 59 artworks from the Brooklyn Museum’s esteemed collection of European art, spanning the era between the Revolution of 1848 and the conclusion of World War II-a period marked by significant social, intellectual, and political upheaval in France.  The exhibition highlights the avant-garde movements that shaped modern art in the 19th and 20th centuries, featuring works by renowned artists native to France, as well as those who studied and exhibited there.

Laura Riding Jackson Foundation offers Historic Home Tours on Apr. 8, 1 p.m. Laura Riding Jackson’s historic home is open for tours. You can drop by and our amazing volunteer docents will give you a tour! We can accommodate groups of 8 or fewer as drop-ins; to bring a larger group for a tour, please reserve in advance.

Music Angels Foundation offers Latin Rhythms by la Herencia Traditional Latin Band on Apr. 9, 6 p.m. at the Ft Pierce Yacht Club. A Special Event & Fundraiser to benefit Music Angels Education Fund. 

North Indian River County Library offers Music with Ricky Ray on Apr. 9, 6 p.m. Get ready to groove at the North IRC Library with musician Ricky Ray for an enjoyable evening of classic hits from legends like the Eagles and Jimmy Buffett.  No registration needed, and it’s absolutely free!

Live from Vero Beach offers Eaglemania – The World’s Greatest Eagles Tribute Band on Apr. 10, 7 p.m. at the Emerson Center in Vero Beach.

McKee Botanical Garden offers Sean Kenney’s Nature Pop!® Made with LEGO® bricks Exhibition on view through 5/4. Featuring 40 sculptures made with over 800,000 LEGO; Bricks and explores the beauty of nature through contemporary, stylized, and colorful displays that stand in striking contrast with their surroundings.

AAUW Vero Beach offers Play the New Mah Jong Card on Apr. 11, 10:30 a.m. at the Vero Beach Yacht Club. Enjoy social play, a delicious lunch, more play and prizes! SPACE IS LIMITED. This is a fundraiser to create scholarships for women and girls in Indian River County.

Ballet Vero Beach offers Choreographers Notebook on Aprl 11, 7:30 p.m. and Apr. 12, 2 p.m. at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. The 12th Season draws to a close as so many have, with laughter bringing down the house.

The company is thrilled to present a full program of works by the godfather of comedy ballet, Peter Anastos. From a troupe of bonkers pirates, to a cadre of frustrated ballerinas, to an absolutely dismal ballet school full of untalented little darlings, Anastos’s works have helped defined Ballet Vero Beach’s signature comic timing. Riverside Theatre offers Every Brilliant Thing through Apr. 13, show times vary.  A boy’s handwritten list to cheer up his despondent mom becomes a surprisingly funny and poignant ode to humanity. Based on true and untrue stories, Duncan MacMillan’s Every Brilliant Thing takes audiences on a sublime and tender coming-of-age journey that reminds us to pay attention to life’s smallest joys— and to each other.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers Timeless: Robert Farber’s Fashion Photography.  Exhibition runs through 8/31.  Robert Farber’s professional practice spans commercial and fine art photography, with subject matter ranging from fashion and portraits to still life and landscapes. The works featured in Timeless are drawn from two major bodies of work: his Vintage Fashion series, captured during commercial shoots, and the Deterioration series, which consists of prints from his earlier fashion photography.

Vero Beach Museum of Art offers Children’s Art Festival on Apr. 12, 10 a.m. This FREE, all-ages event is the Museum’s annual celebration of the arts and art making. Attendees will enjoy art-making activities, music and dance performances, food trucks, art hunts, docent-led tours of the galleries, and free admission to our current exhibitions.

Art in Public Places Program sponsored by the Cultural Council of Indian River County is on exhibit at the Indian River County Courthouse, 2000 16th Avenue, Vero Beach through May 8. Deutilization Conceptualism: The Evolution of Meaning Beyond Function is a solo art exhibit by Viktor Genel.
