On this Independence Day, InsideVero salutes all residents of Vero Beach and Indian River County who have protected our freedoms through service in the United States Armed Forces. Below left is Vero Beach native, Colonel Jim Thompson, U.S. Army Retired. (1932-2022) Thompson entered the Army in September, 1954, serving two years active duty. He served another 28 years in the United States Army Reserves, retiring in 1984 as Colonel.
