The City of Sebastian, in partnership with Indian River County, will install sewer line extensions to enhance public infrastructure. They will break ground on this project located within the City of Sebastian Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) on September 10, 2025.
The purpose of the agreement is to add infrastructure, ensuring that lines are present, allowing every parcel within the CRA to connect to sewer.
Through a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the City of Sebastian will assist residents and businesses with the abandonment of their septic tanks and connection to the sewer system. In doing so, we will significantly improve water quality within the Indian River Lagoon by reducing the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus released into the lagoon from the septic tank effluent.
“We are thankful for the collaboration with the County as well as the heavy lift by City and County staff to get this project started for the benefit of our Indian River, and hope that this is the start of getting more septic systems converted over to the County sewer system,” said Sebastian Mayor Bob McPartlan.
“The Sebastian Septic-to-Sewer project reflects our shared commitment to strengthening the community we serve, both on land and in protecting the health of the Indian River Lagoon. By working together with the City of Sebastian, we are investing in critical infrastructure that safeguards our natural resources, supports our residents, and secures a healthier future for generations to come,” said Chairman Joseph Flescher.
Please join us for a groundbreaking ceremony on September 10, 2025, at 1542 Indian River Drive from 1 to 1:30 pm.
