The Hope for Families Center is proud to announce that Chuck Cunningham will be recognized at this year’s National Philanthropy Day in Indian River County, a celebration of generosity, leadership, and community spirit. The event, themed “Precious Gems,” will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Indian River Chapter. This year marks the 20th anniversary of honoring the individuals, businesses, and organizations whose philanthropy makes Indian River County shine.
Chuck Cunningham has been an unwavering pillar of strength throughout The Hope for Families Center’s expansion project, guiding the organization with wisdom, compassion, and steady leadership. His dedication to the Center’s mission, helping
families move from homelessness to stability, has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life. Thanks to Chuck’s leadership, collaboration, and heart, the expansion will soon allow the Center to serve more families than ever before, offering hope and a path forward to those who need it most.
“Chuck has been a true champion for families experiencing homelessness,” said Marty Mercado, Executive Director of The Hope for Families Center. “His steadfast leadership and generosity have helped us take a major step toward our goal of making family homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring in Indian River County.”
About The Hope for Families Center The Hope for Families Center is the largest shelter and program serving homeless families on the Treasure Coast. Through its five keys to success, Job Placement, Financial Literacy, Equity in Education, Health and Wellness, and Housing Placement the Center provides the tools and support families need to achieve lasting independence.
Currently completing a significant expansion from 21 emergency rooms to 41 rooms and nine transitional apartments, the Center will soon be able to assist nearly twice as many families in crisis. Each year, The Hope for Families Center receives 15–20 calls a day from families seeking shelter and maintains a waiting list of more than 100 families, underscoring the urgent need for its services.
