VBMA presents Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA

arts & entertainment

Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA, an original exhibition spotlighting the innovative design for the expanded Vero Beach Museum of Art’s campus, will open in the Museum’s Stark Gallery on January 9, 2026. The exhibition follows the project’s groundbreaking in November 2025.

Designed by Allied Works in collaboration with Unknown Studio Landscape Architecture & Urban Design, the campus transformation project represents a new beginning for VBMA, expanding its capacity to welcome visitors and advancing the growth of its collections, exhibition program, and educational offerings. Its design comprises a series of walled gardens, terraces, and courtyards for art viewing and making, interweaving art and nature and blurring the line between the Museum and Riverside Park.

This exhibition traces the evolution of the project’s design, illustrating its key ideas with architectural models, early concept sketches, drawings, renderings, and other visual representations of the creative process. It will also explore the design as being inspired by and deeply rooted in Vero Beach. The new 90,000-square-foot building embraces the beauty and subtropical climate of its unique barrier island setting, featuring terraced landscaping that elevates the Museum within the park. Enhancing its sustainability and resiliency, the earthen concrete structure is cast from native materials with its surface revealed to reflect the hues and tones of the region.

“The exhibition chronicles the imaginative and profound design journey that leads VBMA to our next chapter,” shares VBMA Executive Director Brady Roberts. “It is a ‘must-see’ for lovers of art and architecture.”

Museum in the Garden is made possible by the generous support of our Director’s Sponsor: Turner Construction Company. It will remain on view through February 7, 2027.

Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA is organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
