New paintings by Madeline Long will be featured at the Center for Spiritual Care during January. The show, titled Splash and Bloom: Pools, Plants and Places, opens with a reception Friday, Jan. 2, from 5-7 p.m. and will run through Jan. 30. The Center is located at 1550 24th St. in Vero Beach.
Long is well known in Vero’s cultural community. A former trustee of the Vero Beach Museum of Art, she continues to serve as an ambassador to the institution.
She was trained at Columbia University and Italy’s prestigious Florence Academy of Art. Her professional journey began as an art director in the publishing and advertising sectors, leading to the role of design director at A&E Television Network.
Long is a highly regarded contemporary painter known for vibrant, storytelling art. Possessed of formidable technical skills, she balances these by incorporating a subtle, dry and often impish sense of play into her paintings. Her humor often manifests as clever visual jokes or social commentary.
Her paintings have won many awards and are sought after by private collectors throughout the country.
The Center will be open for viewing Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. The artist will be present Sundays to answer questions. Private appointments may be arranged to see the works by calling 772-567-1233.
