Dog Park Board Announced

news release

The Vero Beach Dog Park is located off Indian River Drive East, just south of the Vero Beach Marina. The 5-acre property is leased from the City of Vero Beach, and managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. The dog park is not affiliated with any other group and is 100% privately funded and maintained. It remains the only City-leased property that does not charge for use.

The dog park announced its 2026 officers and directors and welcomes one new member to the board. Serving as officers are President, Penny Chandler Norris, Vice President Jill Jones, Treasurer Clay Price, and Secretary Bob Joy.

The board elected and welcomed Ken Morris as its newest director. Continuing members of the Board are Patti Hackett, Jennifer Kearney, Leah Muller, Christina Trammell, Michelle Wood, and Jennifer Wortham. Consultants are attorney Barry Segal and Surlaterre Landscape Architecture. The Administrative Assistant is Rob Haughey.

Chandler said, “Visited by hundreds of dogs and their owners each week, Vero Beach Dog Park continued its success in 2025. We have leased the property from the City since 2014, and appreciate the partnership we have with them.  Our volunteers are united in their commitment to the dog park and are passionate about its success.”

In preparation for additional planned handicapped parking spaces, a comprehensive survey of the park was completed last year, along with engineering to meet the city’s required stormwater drainage policies. Funds will be raised to cover the cost of the additional new handicapped spaces. Among the 2025 improvements were the installation of two new drinking fountains and the replacement of over a dozen waste bag dispensers. New shade sails were installed in the large dog area.

The dog park is divided into large and small dog areas, plus a separate “quiet area” that is enjoyed by older dogs, or dogs recovering from surgeries. Since its beginning, capital improvements have included fencing, utilities, landscaping, benches, shade canopies, and information kiosks. On the south side of the dog park, a shaded observation area for watching and enjoying the dogs at play.

The dog park is located on Indian River Drive East in the City of Vero Beach. To learn more about Vero Beach Dog Park go to www.verobeachdogpark.org
