In presenting their annual Fundraiser on Monday evening, February 23, The Source took a dive head first into the future by looking back at the past and celebrating all of their accomplishments. The Holy Cross Parish Hall was decked out to the theme of the 80’s past and the guest speaker, helped bring it all to life. “Into The Future: Eradicating Homelessness” was a powerful reminder of what can happen when people unite around a shared vision, in this case The Source’s vision in eradicating homelessness in Indian River County which is clearly within reach.
Highlighted by the vibrant sounds of the band “Riptide,” along with photo opportunities galore thanks to “Lensy the Robot” who navigated itself throughout the venue to the delight of the guests, to a fun-filled décor highlighted by an actual DeLorean automobile perched by the venue’s front entrance, and creatively carved ice sculptures that adorned the sumptuous dinner buffet tables…the event was a blast to the past.
The blast to the future was highlighted through sharing the programs and services enjoyed by the organization’s members, the continued growth of the Dignity Bus Initiative, employment pathways, housing solutions, transportation services and more… all depicting that strategic and compassionate action produces real results in the measurable outcomes that change lives.
The special highlight of the evening was in introducing the guest speaker, actor Jeffrey Weissman, best known for his role as George McFly in “Back to the Future” Part 11 and 111. He shared reflections about resilience, setbacks, and his own experiences connected to homelessness. His honesty and willingness to speak openly about struggle and growth resonated deeply with those in attendance.
The Source looks ahead with clarity and determination as they envision individuals facing hardship being met with opportunity, where barriers are addressed with creativity, and where community responsibility remains at the center of the solution.
Sponsors for the event included Emmett & Margaret Anne Evans, Bill & Marcia Blackburn, Lionel & Kathy Lowry, Frazier Foundation, Brian McKeown & Debra Cook, Suzanne Chesser & Harold Lovell, Marjorie Turley, Fran Gilson, Louann Lindsay, Carp Industries, Inc., SouthState Bank, Dr. Thomas & Mrs. Joanne Balshi, Mr & Mrs. Robert Lyles, iTHINK Financial, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Paul Flynn, Charles Sinclair and Doug & Susanne Sweeny.
