council resolution-B

Showing a complete disregard for or knowledge of the Constitution’s First Amendment prohibition against the establishment of an official state religion, Vero Beach Mayor Criag Fletcher and Vice Mayor Tracy Carroll recently refused to sign or support a resolution proclaiming Humanist Recognition Week.  “Cardinal” Fletcher said he would not support the resolution because Humanists, “do not believe in Jesus Christ as their savior.”  For her part, “Bishop” Carroll explained her internet research led her to conclude that Humanists are atheists.

  1. Its the constitution dummy.Come on! I am a second class citizen because I am not a Christan?WE are all equal in the public square. Wake up Vero! Al Johnson

  2. How can a movement that believes in no miracles, or has no high holy days ask for a holiday to be created? We do not have a day for existentialism, individualism, nor even idealism. The existentialist communes with nature, the rugged individual strikes out on their own, and the idealist want to make a perfect world. None of these philosophies have a holiday.

  3. I’m surprised we haven’t heard from the Jewish community yet, perhaps they are not surprised, either, that they aren’t really citizens.

  4. Good to know that the government in Vero is so inclusive, and really up on that whole “separation of church and state” thing. I’m so embarrassed to be from this town.
