Bruce C. Grant, 81, Vero Beach, passed away October 7, 2013. Bruce was born March 23, 1932 to Samuel & Gladys Grant. He lived in Rensselaer, Indiana most of his life where he graduated from Rensselaer Central High School in 1951. He joined the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He married Jo-Ann L. Grant September 27th, 1957 his surviving spouse. Bruce was an avid fisherman who loved to spend time with his grandchildren teaching them how to fish. Bruce is survived by three children: Joseph (Patricia) Grant – Bloomington, IN, Samantha Obbagy – Crown Point, IN, and Bruce Grant Jr. – Vero Beach, FL, 7 grandchildren, and his sister Mary Caryl Marzke – Spartanburg, SC. Donations may be given to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or American Cancer Society. PhillipsMabel Trissilla Phillips, 82, of Vero Beach, passed away on Tuesday, October 08, 2013 at her home. Ms. Phillips was born October 17, 1930 in Trussville, AL. She had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1973, coming from Alabama.  She attended First Covenant Church in Vero Beach. Affectionately known as Nana, she was known and loved by many. She is survived by her children, Clinton Hunt of Vero Beach; Clifford Hunt Ortonville, MI; Londa Barreras of Lakeland; Sandra Devoe of Vero Beach; Todd Bergen of Bushnell; Lew Allen Hunt of Vero Beach and Dorothy Thomas of Sebastian; brothers, Julius and Roland McGowan; sister, Elizabeth Needham and Marie Osborne; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James Phillips; daughter, Janice Sue Dye; son, Boyd Edward Hunt and 4 siblings. Services: A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 9:30-10:00 am with a service starting at 10:00 am at First Covenant Church in Vero Beach. ReasonCatherine Early Reason, 70, of Vero Beach, FL passed away On October 3, 2013, at VNA Hospice. Evangelist Reason, was born to the parents of the late Zettie and Brasella Ealy in Montgomery, AL. She moved to Indian River County along with her family over 60 years ago. She was educated in the public schools of Indian River County. Evangelist Reason was employed before retirement in the domestic industry for private home owners. She was a member of Upper Room Temple-COC in Wabasso, FL where she served in the following capacities: the Church Evangelist, Sunday School Teacher, Youth President, Financial Secretary, President of Women In Ministry (W.I.M.), Pastor’s Aide President, Noon Day Prayer Coordinator, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Frye; a brother, Thomas Ealy; and 2 sisters, Louella Miles and Daisy Rigby. Remaining behind to mourn her passing and celebrate her homegoing are: 3 sons, Steven Lamar Ealy of Tallahassee, FL, Elder Vernon Phillip Reason (Annette) of Vero Beach, FL and Julius Andrew Reason (Jacqueline) of Palm Bay, FL; 2 daughters, Wanda Jones (Arthur Lee) of Wabasso, FL ad Annie Laurie Smith (James) of Vero Beach, FL; a brother, Solomon Ealy of Gifford, FL; 24 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives including nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors church family and friends.

StanselBessie “Wylene” Stansel, 92, died October 4, 2013 at her home in Vero Beach. She was born in Metcalfe, GA and lived in Vero Beach for 84 years coming from Plant City, FL. She was a graduate of Vero Beach High School, Class of 1939. Mrs. Stansel had a 30 year career in Indian River County Administration that included positions with the Indian River County Tax Collectors Office, Tax Assessors Office and the County Clerks Office.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Vero Beach.  Survivors include her sons, Cres Stansel (Bonnie) and Kenneth Stansel (Daina) both of Vero Beach; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Stansel and brother, Eugene “Jeep” Ward.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, FL 32960 in memory of Mrs. Stansel.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Strunk Funeral Home with Rev. Derrick West officiating.
