During an interview on local radio yesterday, Vero Beach City Councilman and former mayor Craig Fletcher said he will not seek re-election in November. Instead, Fletcher said, “I’m going to cash my chips in and walk away from the table. I have had enough.”
Fletcher has been a staunch supporter of the sale of Vero Electric to Florida Power & Light, pushing for budget cuts rather than tax increases to make up for at least some of the $5.5 million in revenue that would be lost if the sale is concluded.

In the same interview Craig Fletcher predicted bankruptcy for the City of Vero Beach.
Fletcher is like a captain who, after running his ship into an iceberg, scurries for the nearest lifeboat.
