On Wednesday, August 6th the Indian River County Supervisor of Elections Office conducted the Pre-Election Public Test of the voting and tabulating equipment to be used in the upcoming Primary Election. Judge David Morgan, County Commissioner Bob Solari, and representative, Cathy Cook from the Division of Elections were present to witness the Logic & Accuracy Test, which was held in the warehouse of the Supervisor of Elections Office.

Cathy Cook is the Division of Elections’ Systems Project Analyst with the Bureau of Voting Systems Certification.  The objective of Cathy’s visit was to observe Indian River County’s Logic & Accuracy test.  The Elections Office staff welcomes the opportunity for representatives from the Division of Elections to have an up close view of the procedures and challenges local supervisors of elections encounter.

“The purpose of the testing is to determine that the voting system is properly programmed, the election is correctly defined on the voting system, and that all of the voting system input, output, and communication devices are working properly,” said Supervisor of Elections Leslie Swan.

A random sample of optical scan and touchscreen voting machines were tested as well as the high-speed absentee ballot tabulator. The public test is conducted by processing a pre-audited, marked group of ballots, running the ballots through the voting and tabulation machines, and then comparing the results with the number of pre-determined valid votes for each race.

The final tabulated results accurately matched the control sheet and the voting equipment is now ready for delivery to the early voting and Election Day polling sites.

The primary election is August 26th. Early voting begins August 15th and concludes on August 23rd. Visit www.voteindianriver.com for more information.
