Letter to the Editor: Peter O’Bryan, a disgrace as a public servant!

Indian River County Commission Chairman Peter O’Bryan

Editor’s note: InsideVero received input from a number of attendees at yesterday’s County Commission meeting who considered Commission Chairman Peter O’Bryan’s behavior unbecoming of a public servant. One writer described O’Bryan’s criticism of Lagoon activist, Lange Sykes, as a “brutal chastising.”

During Tuesday’s meeting at the County Commission Chamber, it was the consensus of resident attendees that Mr. Peter O’Bryan, Chairman, acted as a disrespectful bully to Mr. Lange Sykes’ opposition presentation concerning the Oslo boat ramp. He stated that Mr. Sykes’ informational video was a “sham” and called him a “liar”. Mr. O’Bryan your behavior was repulsive!

It appears, Mr. O’Bryan, that you are not fit to represent the citizens of Indian River County in a respectful way and should step down and return to your position in Mosquito control. Mr. O’Bryan, it says in your Bio: “I devote my time to serving the public,” it is vividly apparent you have forgotten that! In case you need reminding, the residents of Indian River County are paying your salary and you were elected to SERVE these citizens in the utmost respectful way. You owe Mr. Sykes an apology. In addition, the residents of Indian River County believe there is an underlying agenda in support of the Oslo boat ramp expansion and the citizens that you “SERVE” eagerly await your honest reply!

  1. Mr O’Bryan should be the poster boy for term limits. We will remember you next election, just ask Tracy Carroll how is feels to have an electotial bulls eye on you for being arrogant.

  2. I was there and it was totally out of line to badger him. What happened to civility? Is there an underlying issue here?

  3. I happened to catch a portion of this presentation and Mr. O’Bryan’s exchange with Mr. Sykes. I could not believe what I was hearing. This was such a change from the first time Mr. O’Bryan was presented the opportunity to serve his District. It is a shame no one from his District stepped forward to run against him.

  4. What is needed to change Peter O’Bryan’s attitude is some competition. He is now in the same class as Bob Solari and this is not good.

  5. What is perhaps most disturbing from this public bullying incident is that other Council members stayed silent and allowed it to continue without speaking up ….and the focus of Mr. Syke’s presentation was purposely diverted to avoid the most important issue at hand: protecting our precious lagoon.

  6. To hear Commissioner O’Bryan call Mr. Sykes a liar, was shocking! This type of conduct is unacceptable for those who hold public office. The people of Indian River County deserve a
commissioner who has good leadership and shows self control at times of disagreement.
