Local youth Cal Ripken players and Korean Professional SK Wyverns holding events at Historic Dodgertown

Cal Ripken League relayArea Cal Ripken League players have been breaking in their gloves under the lights at Historic Dodgertown’s quad complex this week and next, as they prepare for their upcoming season. A division of Babe Ruth, the Indian River Cal Ripken League serves youth ages 12 and under from Vero Beach, Sebastian, Ft. Pierce and Palm Bay. The Cal Ripken League and Historic Dodgertown have partnered annually to kick off the upcoming year with “Spring Training” practices, with lights and field preparation provided by Historic Dodgertown.

A number of players will also be back on the fields for the upcoming Treasure Coast Presidents’ Day Challenge. This event has grown to include teams from a dozen states and Canada, along with area travel ball clubs.

The SK Wyverns, a professional team currently training at Historic Dodgertown, has announced they will feature two upcoming intrasquad games in Holman Stadium. Free to the public, games will be played Tuesday, February 3rd, and Friday, February 6th, at 1:30 p.m. The Wyverns compete in the Korean Baseball Organization, Korea’s top professional baseball league. The Wyverns roster includes three Americans: pitchers Merrill Kelly and Travis Banwart, along with former Mets outfielder Andrew Brown.

Concessions will be available and both games are subject to change due to weather or Wyverns schedule amendments.
