RICHARD S. COOK, 92, of Vero Beach, passed away, Sunday, March 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Richard was a native of Lansing, MI. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during WWII. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and he worked as an Executive for Chrysler Motor Company for many years. He was an Elder and a Deacon at Vero Christian Church. Richard found much enjoyment while assisting other churches in their time of growth.

Richard is predeceased by his parents, John and Maude Cook; his loving wife of 57 years, Fern A. Cook; and many brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Diana Cook; daughter, Judy Heritage; four grandchildren, Michael (Bernadette), Nathan (Susan), Matthew and Alicia (Jeremy); seven great-grandchildren, AJ, Hunter, Lily, Colin, Tristen, Caleb and Kianna as well as many extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2015 from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Vero Christian Church, 3250 Oslo Road, Vero Beach, FL. ALISON O’BRIEN, 52, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at her residence. She was born December 5, 1962 in Boston, Massachusetts and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 14 years coming from Chicago. Alison worked as a Registered Nurse. She was active in hiking, biking, kayaking, sailing and weightlifting and was training for her first Ironman. She was a worldwide traveler. Everyone who met her was inspired by her.

She is survived by her husband, Sean; daughters, Ariel, Meghan, Kelli and Nicole; sons, Seamus and Sean; mother, Charlotte; father, Don Price; grandfather, Emil; grandmother, Carol; brother; Lenny and Aunts, Anna Marie, Donna. The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 10-11 AM with a Celebration of Alison’s Life to be held at 11 AM at the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach. HARRY “SONNY” SPAULDING, 87, passed away on February 27, 2015 at VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach. Harry was born on September 7, 1927 in Etna, New York to Mona and C. Harry Spaulding. He was an only child. He served in the United States Army and Navy from 1945 through 1951. After completing his military service, Harry work for Mohawk Airlines in Ithaca, New York. He owned his own Volkswagen repair shop and worked for Ripley Motors in Ithaca, New York. Longing for warmer weather, he moved his family to Eau Gallie, Florida in 1964. He worked as a mechanic for the Porsche Volkswagen dealership in Merritt Island, Florida. In 1968, he remarried to Joan Siemer Hall. They immediately moved to Roseland, Florida where he lived the remainder of his life. After moving to Indian River County, Harry went to work for Harbor Branch Foundation where he served as the chief engineer on the Research Vessel Gosslin, then as the cook and later chief engineer on the Research Vessel Johnson. During this time, Harry participated in the discovery and mapping of the Civil War Vessel, the USS Monitor found off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. In 1982, Harry and Joan started their own business, Spaulding Sharpening Service in Roseland, Florida. He worked there until his retirement in 2003.  Harry was involved in Boy Scouts of America from 1969 through 1984. He was the Scout Master for Wabasso Troop 555, “The Triple Nickle,” and was named Scout Master of Year in 1975 by the Gulf Stream Council. He achieved the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge. His totem was the Bob White.  Harry was avid gardener, enjoyed woodworking, and loved his family and dogs. He loved his land and the community of Roseland. Harry said “He had no regrets and wouldn’t change a thing.”

Harry is survived by his wife Joan Spaulding. They were married 46 years. His surviving children are Barbara Ryan of Roseland, Florida; Karen Knout of Sugar Hill, Georgia; Thomas and Diana Spaulding of Roseland, Florida; Elisabeth Spaulding of Cummings, Georgia; Dennis Hall of Eustis, Florida; and Sally Tucker of Moultrie, Georgia. He is predeceased by his son, Dale Hall. Harry is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. The family will celebrate Harry’s life at a private gathering on Saturday, March 14th.
