Former Mayor Sabe Abell in fatal accident

Former Vero Beach mayor, Sabin C. “Sabe” Abell, 83, was killed yesterday afternoon in a single car accident at the intersection of 20th Street and 10th Avenue. His wife, Karen, was also in the car but according to a source, her injuries were not life-threatening.

Abell served as mayor of Vero Beach from November 2008 until November 2009. He remained active in the community since then and was seen frequently around town.

Former Mayor Abell was a true gentleman. As a Dartmouth Alumni, he was kind enough to meet my grandson a few years ago because my grandson wants to attend Dartmouth. It was because of the advice that Sabe Abell shared with my grandson that he has become more involved in his own community. My grandson was just honored by the local Rotary as a future leader.

Vero Beach has lost a true gentleman, and an esteemed Councilman and Mayor. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his soulmate, Karen at this most difficult time. Caroline Ginn
