weekend-p-millieOn view now through October 4th, “Portraits” by Judy Burgarella at the Indian River County Courthouse, 2000 16th Avenue, Vero Beach. The 60-piece exhibit features portraits of people of many ethnicities, and includes movie stars, Gypsies, Native Americans, famous artists, African Americans, and includes works in oil, acrylics, gouache, watercolor, pastel, charcoal and pencil.  Judy is an award-winning artist who teaches portraiture at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, mixed media/subjects at the Sebastian River Art Club, and gives private instructions and demonstrations. The Vero Beach Art Club is offering open studio classes at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.  Portrait Studios, monitored by Keith Mills, with a live model will be held on Fridays from 1:30 to 4:30 pm through December (except November 25).   On Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 pm, Figure/Life Studio, monitored by Kim Weissenborn,  with a nude model will be offered through December 8th.  The cost for each studio session is $10 for VBAC Members, $15 for non-members.  Call 772-231-0303 for more information.

The  Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24th Street in Vero Beach is offering three new ongoing classes: A Course In Miracles Book Study & Discussion Group with Betty Ritchie on Mondays from noon- 1 pm and A Course Of Love Book Study & Discussion Group with Dr. Paula Hardin on the first and third Mondays of the month from 4 to 5:30 pm.  In addition, on October 1, Dismantle Your Inner Critic – 6 Steps to Live Your Brilliance Workshop with Joy Caffrey, Energy Healer, Motivational Speaker and Mentor, will be held from 9:30 am to 3 pm.  For details, to register, and other class offerings, visit




DOWNTOWN FRIDAY – Main Street Vero Beach presents Downtown Friday on September 30 from 6 to 9 pm on 14th Avenue at State Road 60 (20th St.)  This popular street party offers vendors, community booths, food & drink as well as live music by The Humdingers.  At band intermission, (about 7 pm) there will be a special surprise!

weekend-community-appreciation-dayOn Saturday, October 1, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, McKee Botanical Garden will offer a $1 admission price in honor of Community Appreciation Day.  In addition to the special admission price, enjoy $10 off new memberships to the Garden which includes a 10% discount at the Garden Gift and Book Shop.   This year McKee Botanical Garden is celebrating its 15th anniversary since re-opening in 2001.  During that time, they have increased the varieties of waterlilies in the collection from 50 to 100 different species. Pastel artist, Dawn E. Miller will hold a new workshop titled Introduction to Soft Pastels on October 1 from 9 am to 4 pm with all supplies provided ($95).  Improve your Drawing on  November 5 & 6, from 2 to 5 pm will provide students with specific tools to enhance how to see relationships between objects in space. ($90).  In addition, Five week Studio Classes are open to people working in any medium.
