The Vero Beach Museum of Art has a new exhibition titled The American Spirit: Selections from the Manoogian Collection that is on view until January 8.  Fifty-one significant historical paintings by American artists are represented in this collection. ONGOING – COMMUNITY EVENTS

The Vero Beach Yacht Club is holding its Holiday Teddy Bear Drive through December 23. Members of the community can leave new small teddy bears and other cuddly critters that ER volunteers at Indian River Medical Center give to pediatric and elderly patients. Bears can be dropped off from 12-9 pm Tuesday – Friday and from 5-9 pm Saturdays at the clubhouse, 3601 Rio Vista Blvd. (next to the City Marina). 231-2211. www.verobeachyachtclub.com.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17

weekend-little-gemsimg_4512The Sebastian River Art Club is hosting an opening reception for “Little Gems,” miniature paintings by Club members, on Thursday, November 17 from 3 to 5 pm at the Club gallery, 1245 Main Street in Sebastian.  These 4” x 4” and 5” x 7” paintings are priced from $5 to $25 and will make excellent gifts or tree ornaments.  Proceeds will be donated to the Ecumenical Council Food Bank to provide holiday meals for the needy.

 

McKee Botanical Garden’s new Book Club will hold its first meeting on Thursday, November  17 at 11 am at the Library at McKee, 350 US 1 in Vero Beach.   Red Tails in Love by Marie Winn will be discussed.

FESTIVAL OF TREES AT RIVERSIDE THEATRE

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform “Sinfonia Antarctica,”  Ralph Vaughan Williams magical 7th Symphony at 7 pm on Saturday, November 19 at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street. Included in the performance is Malcolm Arnold’s rollicking piece based on the Robert Burns poem, Tam o’ Shanter and Richard Strauss’ powerful Four Last Songs. Main Street Vero Beach is holding its Vintage & Green Market from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, November 19 in downtown Vero Beach.  Shop local for vintage wares and local produce.  This event is FREE to attend. The Theatre-Go-Round Dinner Theatre presents “Let the Good Times Roll” on Sunday, November 20 at the Quilted Giraffe, 500 S. US 1 In Vero Beach.  This show features rockin’ golden oldies from the 1950s with billboard hits from that era of sock hops, roller skating car hops, soda jerks and drive in movies. Arts & Culture in St. Lucie County

Backus Museum’s Grand Reopening,after  its five-month renovation and expansion, features a new exhibit: Cuba; It’s Not All Black and White, Contemporary Cuban Photography and Sculpture on Sunday, November 20 from Noon to 4 pm.  This Sunday Open House is free and will have speakers throughout the day and refreshments.  The exhibit continues through January 6th.  Visit BackusMuseum.com for more information.
