McKee Botanical Garden is pleased to announce its 2017 Spring/Summer Class Schedule. Registration is now open for this series of classes which features hands-on workshops and lectures on a variety of topics.
McKee’s class schedule offers something for everyone…whether you are interested in plants, sea turtles, cooking, photography or children’s workshops, the Spring/Summer class schedule has you in mind.
For the plant and gardening enthusiasts, we are offering an “Orchid Mounting” workshop on Saturday, April 8 from 10 am – 12 pm and “Fat Plants of the World – Succulents and Other Rare Plants” on Saturday, May 20 from 10 – 11 am.
For those who love to cook or want to learn more about cooking, the schedule includes the following classes: Cooking with Urvi “Introduction to Indian Vegetarian Cooking” on Saturday, April 29 from 2 – 4 pm.; “Cooking with Kim Coveny of Joey’s Seafood Shack” on Saturday, June 24 from 1:00-2:30 pm.; and “Lighten Up” a series of five healthy cooking demonstrations including one for children by Michael Clifford, Jr. and Jayne McAllister of SeaLantro in Vero Beach. Sessions will take place each Saturday beginning Saturday, July 8 until Saturday, August 5 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, and include topics such as “How To Prep Like a Pro”, “Delicious Ways to Prepare Vegetables”, “Demystifying Grains and Glutens”, “Healthy Snacks”, and “Fun and Healthy Cooking for Kids”.
In addition, the following classes are being offered at the Garden: “Paper Sculpture Creatures” a workshop recommended for children ages 7-12 on Saturday, March 25 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, “Florida’s Sea Turtles”, a presentation on sea turtle biology and local impacts on sea turtles and the steps that Indian River County is taking to make our beaches a better habitat for sea turtle nesting, which will take place on Friday, June 2 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm. We are also offering a “Photography in the Garden” workshop on Saturday, June 10 from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm.

McKee Botanical Garden is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to nurture and enhance a historic garden in a unique tropical setting for the education, enjoyment and enrichment of all. McKee Botanical Garden is located at 350 US Highway 1 in Vero Beach. General admission rates are $12 adults, $11 seniors and $8 children ages 3 to 12. Admission is free for members and children under 3. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The Garden is closed Mondays.
