THURSDAY, APRIL 6

The Palm House Gallery, 3227A Ocean Drive (upstairs) in Vero Beach, is holding an opening reception on Thursday, April 6 from 5 to 8 pm for its Oil and Water Art Show featuring  artists: Wendy Douglas, Dede Gilbert, Rick Kelly, Kathy Kemp, Madeline Long, Suzy Mellott, Lee Moore, Jack Staley, Emily Tremml and Janet Kipp Tribus.  10% of all sales will be contributed to Quail Valley Charities.

 

HairPeace will perform at the North Indian River County Library Coffee House on Friday, April 7th, from 7 to 9 p.m. This local favorite band returns with Ray and Chrystine entertaining with their original folk/rock sound.  Free.

Main Street Vero Beach presents The 14th Annual Hibiscus Festival this weekend on 14th Avenue downtown.  Thursday, April 6 at 7 pm with the Miss Hibiscus Pageant at the Heritage Center.

The Atlantic Classical Orchestra will perform Masterworks IV – Heart & Soul on Thursday, April 6 at 7:30 pm at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts on Saint Edwards Campus.  For details & tickets, call the ACO office at 772.460.0850.

FRIDAY, APRIL 7

The First Friday Gallery Stroll along and around 14th Avenue in Vero Beach will be held on Friday, April 7 from 5 to 8 pm.  Here’s a preview:

Gallery 14 presents Celebration in Silver: Photographic Landscapes by Mark Schumann, an exhibit of black and white photographs capturing grand and intimate landscapes of both the Southwestern United States and Florida.  The Artists Guild Gallery presents watercolorist William Bracken  as its guest artist for the month of April. Main Street Vero Beach hosts marine & environmental artist, Guy LeFebvre, the monthly guest artist during the First Friday Gallery Stroll.

 

The Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce presents Blue Cypress Bluegrass on Friday, April 7 at 5:30 pm at Riverview Park.   Free.

The Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24 Street in Vero Beach welcomes George Pillorgé with a pastel exhibit Everyday Life and Places with an opening reception on Friday, April 7 from 5 to 7 pm.

Bob & Bob with the Seller to Cellar show are reuniting to benefit the preservation of the Vero Beach Heritage Center. Enjoy delectable hors d’oeuvres and charcuterie from Osceola Bistro. The J.M.Stringer Gallery, 3465 Ocean Drive in Vero Beach, presents The Infinite Effects of Light, featuring the recent paintings of John Phillip Osborne (at right). Enjoy a wine and hors d’oeuvres opening reception on Thursday, April 6 from 4 to 8 pm; Friday & Saturday, April 7 & 8 from 11 am to 6 pm.  There will be an Artist’s demo at 1:00 pm on Saturday.

 

SATURDAY, APRIL 8

The Sebastian River Art Club presents Art by the River, a Fine Art Show and Sale, on Saturday, April 8 at Riverview Park in Sebastian from 10 am to 4 pm.

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department’s 58th  Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 8 from 10 am to 11:30 am at Mulligan’s Beach House, 1025 Beachland Blvd.  Enjoy beachfront egg hunting, golden egg winners and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Every child gets a prize. Please bring your Easter basket and a donation of 6 empty plastic Easter Eggs.  Free.

The Sebastian Inlet State Park will host a 1715 Plate Fleet disaster event on Saturday, April 8 from 10 am to 3 pm.  At 1 pm, Dr. John de Bry, will present a lecture, The History of the 1715 Fleet – A Maritime Tragedy off the East Coast of Florida.  Admission to the presentation is free with regular park entry fees.

 

Sebastian Inlet State Park presents St. John’s Wood in concert on Saturday, April 8 from 6 to 9 pm. St. John’s Wood is a five piece band that transports you back to the music of the 1960’s British invasion.  This is the music that helped define a generation; it includes The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Zombies, The Animals, David Bowie, Eric Clapton and many more.  Free with regular park admission.

 

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform “Mozart Symphony No. 40”  on Saturday, April 8 at 7 pm at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.  A featured musician is nine-year-old pianist Jacob Velasquez who performs from memory.  $20 general admission, FREE for 18 & under or with student ID.  Call 855.252.7276   or visit SpaceCoastSymphony.org.

HIBISCUS FESTIVAL FEATURES ART, MUSIC AND MORE!

Main Street Vero Beach presents The 14th Annual Hibiscus Festival this weekend on 14th Avenue downtown.    On Saturday & Sunday, April 8 & 9 enjoy live music, community booths and a juried Fine Art & Craft show.  For the third year the Hibiscus Bike Ride will be a featured and will offer multiple routes designed to welcome cyclists from throughout the region. All rides start and end at the Historic Train Station in Downtown Vero Beach. Registration and information for the rides are available on line at www.hibiscusride.com.  Admission to the Festival is free.

 

SUNDAY,  APRIL 9

The Vero Beach Art Club members will be exhibiting their work at Art In The Park at Humiston Park on Ocean Drive on Sunday, April 9 from 10 am to 4 pm.

Save the Chimps 3rd Annual Chimpathon 16K will be held on Sunday, April 9 beginning at 7 am.  This is a rare opportunity to run or walk the sanctuary grounds, home to over 250 chimps.  The race begins and ends at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds with one lap around the Sanctuary.  To register, visit chimpathon.org or call(772) 429-2225.  Registration is $70 per person in advance or on Race Day for $80 per person.
