Crossover Mission ads two new board members

Crossover Mission announces the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors. Joining the Board of Directors are John Vanderzee and Steve Hodges.

“Both John and Steve embody the spirit of community and bring talent, energy, and fresh thinking to Crossover Mission,” said Cathy De Schouwer, co-founder and director of Crossover Mission. “We are very fortunate to have them on our team as we strive to make a difference in the lives of the at-risk youth in our community.”

Born and raised in Michigan, John Vanderzee earned an Engineering degree from Princeton. After graduation, he joined the Navy where he was an officer on active duty from 1954-57.

Vanderzee spent 31 years with the Ford Motor Company in a number of sales and marketing roles. He retired from Ford in 1994 as the International Executive Advertising Director. Vanderzee then joined Young & Rubicam Advertising as CEO of the Detroit office.

Vanderzee retired in 1999 and moved to Vero Beach where he resides full-time today. He is a board member of the Indian River Neighborhood Association and Bermuda Bay Management Board Director, and executive supporter with the United Way.

Born in West Virginia, Steve Hodges’ parents moved to Miami when he was a child. While in Miami, Hodges discovered and fostered his love for numismatics, the collection of currency including coins, tokens, paper money, and related objects.

Hodges’ hobby became a life-long career and he opened his first business, Coin Club South, Inc., in Miami, FL in 1972. In 2000, Hodges moved to Vero Beach and opened the West Bay Trading Company. The proximity of West Bay Trading Company to the Treasure Coast has allowed Hodges to participate in the retrieval of treasure from the 300-year-old shipwrecks of the Treasure Coast.

“Over the last years, our board has developed into one that is arguably world class, with diverse contributors and action oriented members that stand in integrity with the children we serve,” said Bill Harris, President, Board of Directors of Crossover Mission.

Crossover Mission, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to support and redirect at-risk youth through programs run by dedicated educators, coaches, and mentors, using sports as a tool to attract, motivate and monitor achievement, and to provide local and world exposure to young minds. In that pursuit, the secondary purpose of Crossover Mission, Inc. is to build a bridge of friendship and understanding between cultures, starting at a young age, which will help to erode the walls of separation that continue to divide our society.
