Listing of events is FREE for all in the Guide that covers events from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2018. 25,000 copies are distributed each year to visitors and residents beginning with the Celebrate the Arts Festival in Riverside Park, Saturday, September 30, 2017. The excitement begins with this month’s band Johnny and the Blaze. Dance the evening away to the classic sounds of Motown, Rock and Funk. The Treetops Band will perform during the first band break. SCSO IN CONCERT
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will close its musical season with a presentation of Cosmos at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 28 at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center at 1707 16th Street. The concert is the third in a series of innovative multi-media concerts with imagery from NASA. Led by Aaron T. Collins, the program opens up with the world premiere of a new work, Cosmos, by composer Christopher Marshall, (pictured) whose 20-minute work will highlight the history of flight. New Zealander Marshall is a favorite of SCSO audiences and the seven-year Composer in Residence at the University of Central Florida. The second half of the program will feature breathtaking images of distant galaxies, nebulae and other astronomical wonders on screen, set to the score of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World. Cosmos is rounded out with Charles Ives’ haunting, The Unanswered Question. The concert is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID. $20 advance tickets are available through the orchestra website at SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches). The National Navy SEAL Museum, 3300 North Hwy A1A in Fort Pierce, will hold its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29th. The flag retirement ceremony begins at 8:00 am, followed by the service at the Memorial Wall beginning at 9:00 am. Come honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and take advantage of free admission to the Museum until noon. CAPT Milton J. Sands, Naval Special Warfare Group Two (NSWG2) Commodore will be the keynote speaker.
The Vero Beach Elks Lodge, 1350 26th Street, is having a Memorial Day BBQ on Monday, May 29th at 4 pm, followed by music by the Rebel Rousers from 5-8 pm. For reservations call 772-562-8450.
The City of Vero Beach will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Island Sanctuary on Monday, May 29. The program will begin at 9:00 am, preceded by patriotic music provided by the Vero Beach High School Band. Alan S. Thompson, Vice Admiral US Navy, Retired, will present the keynote address. A new feature for this event, The Boots on the Ground Memorial, becomes an integral part of the 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony. Each boot you will see on display is representative of lives lost by those serving in our military since 9-11-2001. The Ceremonial Wreath be placed by Staff Sergeant Jason Wang, US Army and Corporal Heath Harris, USMC.
KEYBOARD CROSSOVER CAMP & ADULT WORKSHOP
The Community Church of Vero Beach will have Keyboard Crossover (Youth) Camp and an Adult Workshop from June 19 through 24. Designed to develop the existing skills of pianists of all ages, the students will have the unique opportunity to experience hands on training in basic organ and harpsichord keyboards. Also offered are intense individual and small group piano lessons. Youth Camp is for Intermediate to Advanced keyboardists ages 10 through 19. Monday-Friday from 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. Tuition $360; after May 31st $390. The Adult Workshop for Advanced to Professional Keyboardists will be held on Friday from 3 pm to 9 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. Tuition $150; after May 31st $175.
