CULTURAL COUNCIL PRESENTS SUMMERFEST 2017
Save the date for the Cultural Council of Indian River County’s annual Summerfest Concert on Sunday, August 13 at 3 pm at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church. Twenty musicians from ten countries around the world will be performing an exciting program including the works of Bach, Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Piazzolla and Ravel as well as pieces by Lorenzo Turchi-Floris, Summerfest Composer in Residence. Music students from middle through high school are invited to not only attend the performance as guests of the Cultural Council, but to personally interact with the Orchestra members prior to the performance. Vero Beach High School’s Symphony Orchestra has been invited to perform the first piece on the program with the Summerfest Chamber Orchestra. Broadway Weekend at Theatre Guild July 20-23
This Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 20-23, the Vero Beach Theatre Guild presents its Concert-style musical review, “Celebrating 60”. Directed by Ben Earman and Mark Wygonik, the show features songs from many of the Guild’s biggest hits – King and I, Hairspray, Evita, Guys and Dolls – along with future show candidates that include Follies, Jekyll & Hyde, Ragtime and Sister Act. The Guild’s summer show showcases the vocal talents of Kelly Clemenzi, Ben Earman, Scott Freshley, Sara Gordon, Jillian Lopes, Derrick Paul, Dana Rogers, Larry Strauss and Valery Valentine as well as Jacob Craig on piano. Show times and dates are Thursday, July 20 at 7 pm; Friday, July 21 at 8 pm; Saturday, July 22 at 8 pm and Sunday, July 23 at 2 pm. Tickets for this week’s summer show are $25; Students $12. SCSO FANTASIES CONCERT THIS SUNDAY
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform “Fantasies” on Sunday, July 23 at 3 pm at Community Church of Vero Beach. The concert opens up with Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, an energetic and dazzling work made popular in the Walt Disney film Fantasia. From this magical mood, we move to Richard Wagner’s Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral from Lohengrin, a deeply moving work. The concert culminates with Berlioz’s epic Symphonie fantastique, a thrilling work inspired by a fever-dream of unrequited romantic love. With its surging, volcanic melodies and brilliant orchestral colors, Berlioz’s masterpiece revolutionized music and is still one of the most exhilarating pieces ever written. The Mental Health Association in Indian River County kicks off its Restaurant Roundup Campaign with dinner at Chipotle Mexican Grill, 5855 20th Street in Vero Beach. On Tuesday, July 25 they will be hosting a special fundraiser to support the MHA. That evening, 50% of the MHA customer proceeds will be donated to the MHA between 5 and 9 pm.
