The Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce line up this week is: National Martial Artists & Acrobats of Tianjin People’s Republic of China – China Soul  on Thursday, November 30 at 7:00 pm ($49/45/$20); Bluebird Productions Presents: Sugar Blue- Live @ the Black Box on Friday, December 1 at 8 pm ($25/$27) and South Florida Dance Co.  A Christmas Carol with performances on Saturday, December 2 at 7 pm and Sunday, December 3 at 3 pm ($35/30/25).  Visit for tickets.


The Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24 Street is hosting an opening reception for mixed media artist, Bonnie Bolton,  entitled Dream Chronicles and Other Tales on Friday, December 1 from 5 to 7 pm.


FIRST FRIDAY GALLERY STROLL                         

The First Friday Gallery Stroll along and around 14th Avenue in the Art District will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, December 1.  Gallery exhibits from south to north:  The Other Half Gallery presents new works by the gallery artists.   Gallery 14 presents two guest artists with a show entitled,  Social Stories: Paintings by Tom Manziano and All That Matters is Everything: Mixed Media by Renee Decator.  The Artists Guild Gallery presents paintings by Robert Padovano. Main Street Vero Beach presents oil and watercolor paintings by Carol Bennett.   Flametree Clay Gallery show is Light Up the Holidays (Candles and Luminaries) and Deck the Halls Holiday Ornaments.

The  Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce is holding “Light Up Night” on Friday, December 1 from 5 to 8 pm.  Visit various businesses in Roseland and Sebastian to celebrate the holidays.  Maps will be available at the Chamber office on Friday and in the Press Journal. 



Comedy Zone Experience – Holiday Nights features comedians Ron Feingold and Paul Jensen with shows at 7:30 and 9:30 pm.

Live in the Loop free outside concerts begin at 6:30 pm.  Friday night is Eklektik Storm (Rock n’ Roll Party Band) and Saturday features Big Coque Trio (Classic Rock).  Visit


The  J.M. Stringer Gallery of Fine Art, 3465 Ocean Drive, is hosting an Opening Reception: for their annual holiday group exhibition, ’Tis the Season,” on Saturday, December 2 from 4 to 8 pm. This year’s featured artist is Kyle Stuckey, an exceptional rising star working in a striking Impressionistic Realism style. Stuckey’s recent paintings  will be accompanied by works from their entire roster of established regional, national, and international artists.



The  Indian River County Historical Society is hosting “Fika Day” at the Hallstrom House, 1723 Old Dixie Hwy. SW, Vero Beach,  on Saturday, December 2 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Treat yourself to a Fika, an authentic Swedish Coffee & Pastry Break, then tour the Hallstrom House decorated for the Holidays. The cost is $15.00 and is by reservation only!  Call 772-778-3435.

Sebastian Inlet State Park’s Night Sounds Concert Series continues on Saturday, December 2 from 7 to 9 pm with Rod MacDonald.  Rod is a folk singer and songwriter, novelist, and educator and has been named one of the “Ten Greatest South Florida Folksingers of All Time.”  The concert is free with regular park entry fees.



McKee Botanical Garden will host Holiday Photo Day on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 10:00 am to 3:45 pm.  Individuals and families can have a professional portrait created by Phil Reid of Phil Reid Photography.   Make your holiday cards extra special this year by taking advantage of a one-day opportunity to have a family or individual portrait taken at the historic Stone Bridge at McKee. The First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach is holding “Christmas Tree Lane,” a Holiday Bazaar & Cookie Sale to benefit area charities on Saturday, December 2 from 9 am to 2 pm.  Browse the Unique Boutique, Handmade Treasures, Artisans’ Gallery, Cookies-by-the-Pound, Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, Homemade Candy, and more.  A handmade Queen-size quilt to be auctioned.

 The Environmental Learning Center’s fifth annual WinterGreen Night Lights will be held on Saturday, December 2, from 4 – 8 pm.   Enjoy live holiday music, canoe through mangroves, stroll the boardwalks and create nature-related holiday crafts and  a fairy house hunt. Children must be at least 6 years old to take part in the quick canoe trips, and everyone must wear closed-toe shoes. Fee for admission is $5 for adults and children 12 and older, and $3 for children 2 – 11. Admission is free for ELC members and children under age 2.


 On  Sunday,  December 3  the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department’s gymnastics and performing arts students will present ‘Christmas Road Trip’, an original holiday production and Vero Beach tradition at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center with shows at 2 pm and 6 pm.  Students will perform acrobatic dance routines and amazing aerial acts with a twist of gymnastics set to a holiday tale of three sisters on a road trip to their Grandparents house and their magical encounters along the way.   Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children (ages 6 – 12) and seniors.  Children 5 and younger are free.  Tickets are available at Leisure Square and Riverside Racquet Complex or they can also be purchased at the door. 

The American Association of University Women’s December Book Review Breakfast will be held on December 4 at 9:30 am at the Richardson Center on the IRSC Mueller Campus. Dr. Marie Jureit-Beamish, pianist and flutist, will review of Trio: A Novel Biography of the Schumanns and Brahms, by Boman Desai.  Free. Donations of pre-K books will be appreciated for their book sharing project.

The Center for Spiritual Care will hold its annual benefit luncheon at the Grand Harbor Club on Friday, December 8 from noon – 2 pm.  Tickets are $50.00 per person.  Proceeds from this event will underwrite the Center’s 2018 program activities and services for the local community.   These include meditation groups, art exhibitions, seminars, workshops, wellness and self-care events, creative classes and ongoing recovery and support groups.
