Pilates classes with Janice Broda return to the Heritage Center on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm beginning on January 24. This hour-long, Pilates-based class includes standing exercises and floor exercises on the pine floor, so you will need to bring a mat and small hand weights if you need additional resistance.  Modifications are demonstrated to make this full body work-out appropriate for a variety of fitness levels.  A $5 donation to the Heritage Center is requested.

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department is holding Gymnastics and Aerial registration at Leisure Square Fitness Center (3705 16th Street).  There are gymnastics and aerial classes available for beginners through advanced students.  This performance-based program offers instruction for toddlers through teens!   Participants ages 3 and older will perform at the Annual Indian River County Firefighters Fair in March. AT RIVERSIDE THEATRE

The Mystery of Edwin Drood is based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens and was the first musical where the audience determined the ending. This hilarious and interactive mystery musical tries to solve the murder of the young and charming Edwin Drood.  Was it a romantic rival? The purveyor of opium and vice? THURSDAY,  JANUARY 25

The Flametree Clay Art Gallery, 2041 14th Avenue in Vero Beach will have a special night of poetry and clay art on Thursday,  January 25 at 7:00 pm as they host Sean Sexton to read from his latest work of poetry, “Descent.”  During this event you can also enjoy the clay art from the January Exhibit, “Lay of the Land”, a collaboration of Sean Sexton and Jordan Hyde.  Wine and light appetizers will be served.

The travel film “England: Castles, Cottages & Countryside” will be shown by the Friends of the North Indian River County Library on Thursday, January 25th, from 2-3 p.m. at the Library. Join Rudy Maxa as he takes in the sights in London, Oxford, Bath, Wales, and the Wye River Valley, then tours through England’s most famous castles.  Free.

The Indian River Genealogical Society offers How to Begin Your Family History Research Class, with Pam Cooper every Thursday from 10 am to noon beginning January 25 at the Indian River County Main Library through March 1st.  The cost is a $10 materials fee.   Visit irgs.org to pre-register.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 26

A “Second Time Around” Used Book Sale will be held in the North Indian River County Library Meeting Room on Friday, January 26, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and Saturday, January 27th .9 a.m. – 1 p.m., by the Friends of the Library.  The North Indian River County Library is located at 1001 Sebastian Boulevard.  For more information call (772) 589-1355.

Main Street Vero Beach presents Downtown Friday on January 26 from 6 to 9 pm.  Stroll vendor booths, enjoy a variety of food & drink as well as live musical entertainment.

Transcendental Meditation presentation with Nancy and Sue Dudley will be held at the Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24 Street on Friday, January 26 from 7:00-8:00 pm. Widely studied at medical schools and research institutes, benefits of TM include eliminating stress and anxiety and developing creativity, focus and memory.  Donations are appreciated.

SATURDAY,  JANUARY 27

The Treasure Coast Jazz Society presents The Ed Metz Trio, comprised of three jazz veterans:  Drummer Eddie Metz, Aussie premier bassist and jazz vocalist Nicki Parrott and Italian award-winning pianist Rossano Sportiello.  They will perform at the Heritage Center on Saturday, January 27 at 12:30 pm.  Doors open at 11:15 and a buffet lunch is available.   Reservations are required for the buffet.  To reserve lunch, please call the office prior to the concert at 772-234-4600.  Concert tickets are $45 for TCJS Members, $50 for Non-Members.

The Sebastian Inlet State Park’s Night Sounds Concert Series features SoulJam on Saturday, January 27 from 7 to 9 pm.   Souljam is a five-piece band that plays extended versions of rock n roll jam music.  Playing cover tunes of the Grateful Dead, Phish and the Tedeschi Trucks band with a few original songs mixed in.  The concert is free with regular park entry fees.

 

SUNDAY, JANUARY 28

The Community Church of Vero Beach presents Liebeslieder Waltzes on Sunday, January 28 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.  Johannes Brahms is well known for his larger and more complex musical works, but some of his most beloved compositions include smaller, more intimate pieces. These Liebeslieder, or Love Song Waltzes, feature solos, chorus, and piano duet accompaniment.  Free will offering will be accepted, suggested donation $10.

The Environmental Learning Center is proud to launch its 2018 ELC Adventures in Learning Lecture Series, focusing on the interaction of nature, science and the arts with human well-being. These talks will take place at the ELC campus on three Sundays: January 28, February 18 and March 18, at 2:30 pm with a second lecture repeated at 4:30 pm. Opening the series on January 28 will be Angela Hanscom (at left), founder of TimberNook, the award-winning nature-based children’s school with locations in the US, Australia, and New Zealand. She will speak on “Nature Play for Healthy Child Development.” The price for single tickets for each lecture is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 2 – 11 and students with ID.  A season pass to all three lectures is available at a cost of $50 for adults, $25 for children 2 – 11 and students with ID.  Visit DiscoverELC.org.
