Van Cliburn quarterfinalist joins SCSO to perform Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is playing favorites with the programming for their next concert — Fan Favorites that is, at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 11 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach.
Led by Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins, the SCSO has compiled hundreds of requests over nine performing seasons to program “Fan Favorites,” a concert chock-full of the biggest and best symphonic works by Gershwin, Stravinsky, Respighi, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Debussy, Ravel, Grieg, and more.
A 2017 Van Cliburn piano competition quarterfinalist, Sergey Belyavskiy joins the orchestra to perform Gershwin’s popular Rhapsody in Blue. A foremost interpreter of the works of Franz Liszt, the Russian Belyavskiy will thrill the audience with Totentanz, notable for its basis on the Gregorian melody Dies Irae as well as for daring stylistic innovations.
Twenty dollar advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches). Tickets at the door are $25. The Fan Favorites concert is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID. For more information, call toll free to 855-252-7276 or visit www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org.
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins, is glad to play a concert of all-requests. In 2016, Collins won the Richard A. Stark Award for cultural leadership from the Cultural Council of Indian River County.
“We have a very dedicated and knowledgeable audience that has no problem letting me know what they like,” laughed Collins. “We narrowed down the list of hundreds of requests to create a program something like an orchestral greatest hits album. And we are beyond thrilled to have Sergey Belyavskiy with us to perform Gershwin and Liszt.”
