The 2nd Annual Moonshot Family Literacy Festival – The Power of Our Stories – will be held on Saturday, April 7, from 10 am – 2 pm at Gifford Middle School.
The FREE Moonshot Family Literacy Festival is designed to celebrate and promote literacy and the joy of reading. The festival kicks off at 10am with events such as Build-A-Book, Book Tasting, Minute to Win It, Reader’s Café, periodic give-a-ways, and other fun family activities! It is geared for families with children ages 4 – 18.
We will have VIP guest readers, including serialpreneur and writer Tasheba Nicole Berry-Mc Laren, author of “Space Station Elementary,” to share her story of being a female writer living in South Florida. Tasheba’s mission is to instill the idea that there is always a “next level” that you can reach, especially through reading!
The capstone event will be a Poetry Slam at 1 pm where students, ages 7 – 18, will compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Those interested in competing in the poetry slam should email the following to firstname.lastname@example.org – name, age, school, phone number, and a copy of the poem that will be performed, to be submitted before April 4th. Poetry Slam Entry Form and Flyer
The Moonshot Family Literacy festival is sponsored by The Learning Alliance, Living Hope Fellowship CCHL, Gifford Youth Achievement Center, and The School District of Indian River County. Together, these organizations and others in the Moonshot Community Action Network(MCAN) are providing support for our community’s goal of 90% of all students reading on or above grade-level by 3rd grade.
We look forward to seeing you and your family at the festival!
PS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Contact Willie Finklin if you are interested in volunteering and share this invite with others. Thanks!
