The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department is holding Gymnastics and Performing Arts registration at Leisure Square Fitness Center.  Gymnastics and aerial classes available for beginners through advanced students.  This performance-based program offers instruction for toddlers through teens.  Please call Angie Holshouser at 772-770-3775.

The ARC of Indian River County’s 4th Annual Starlight & Sneakers Enchanted Garden Gala will be held at Rock City Gardens on Thursday, April 19 from 6 to 9:30 pm.  Stroll around the gardens enjoying cocktails and mouth watering hors d’ouvres, be sure to keep a look out for the mystical woodland creatures that are sharing the evening with you!  The Gypsy Lane Band will entertain.  For tickets ($175 per person) call Noreen at 772.584.9511.

FRIDAY, SATURDAY & SUNDAY APRIL 13-15

McKee Botanical Garden will feature a special HO scale model train display from Friday, April 13 through Sunday, April 15, from 10 am to 5 pm on Friday and Saturday and from noon to 5 pm on Sunday.  The HO Group, train enthusiasts from Stuart to Palm Bay, will each build their own 4 ft. wide by 3 ft. deep module, creating a combined 20 ft. x 30 ft. display including 2 to 3 trains running at any one time.  Admission: $12 Adults, $11 seniors, and $8 Children ages 3-12.  McKee members and children under 3 free.

The Sebastian River Art Club, presents Lagoon Tour d’Art, a selection of artwork from award-winners of SRAC’s 2nd Annual Beautiful Lagoon Show, which was held in mid March. An Opening Reception will be held Friday April 13 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Environmental Learning Center.  Artworks including paintings in all mediums, 3-dimensional works and art glass will be on view depicting the beauty and drama of the Indian River Lagoon.  The exhibit will be on view through May 13. 

SATURDAY, APRIL 14

The Indian River Genealogy Society is holding a Genealogy Conference on Saturday, April 14 from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3980 12th Street in Vero Beach. This free conference features 19 classes by 7 speakers, one-on-one consultations to help understand DNA testing, as well as personal assistance in the Family History Center. In-person registration at 8:00 am.

The Treasure Coast Jazz Society presents the John DePaola Quintet to pay tribute to the Cannonball Adderly Quintet on Saturday, April 14 at, 12:30 p.m. at The Plaza, 884 17th Street in Vero Beach. The Quintet will perform an entire program of Adderly Brothers music.  For tickets, call 772-234-4600.

The Sebastian River Art Club welcomes Spring with flower art at Art by the River Fine Art Spring Flowers Show on Saturday, April 14 from 10 am to 4 pm at Riverview Park in Sebastian. The artists have created flowers and other art in a variety of media.

SUNDAY, APRIL 15

8TH ANNUAL POETRY & BBQ THIS SUNDAY 

The Laura Riding Jackson Foundation will hold its 8th Annual Poetry and Barbeque, “Beyond Water and Walls,” from 3 pm-7 pm. on grounds adjacent to Laura’s historic home, on Sunday, April 15.  The house is located at the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach. Celebrate National Poetry Month with music, southern-style barbeque and readings by three of the best women poets in the U.S.: Naomi Shihab Nye, Analicia Sotelo and Peggy Ann Tartt. The Indian River Symphonic Association presents the Brevard Symphony Orchestra performing Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto on Sunday, April 15 at 7:30 pm at Community Church.  The program also includes the Fifth Symphony of Prokofiev, as well as Memorial to Lidice. The Vero Beach Chamber Orchestra celebrates its 10th Anniversary during the second concert of the season on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00 pm which will include the Saint-Saens Piano Concerto No. 2., featuring Dr. Marcos Daniel Flores at the piano. The performance will take place at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.  Admission is free; donations are encouraged.

Save the Chimps is holding its 4th annual Chimpathon (16K) on Sunday, April 15 at the Chimp Sanctuary.  This unique course takes you through one of the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuaries, located in Fort Pierce.  Visit: http://www.savethechimps.org/about-us/events/chimpathon/

The Treasure Coast Youth Symphony will perform “Princess Dreams” at the Lyric Theatre in Stuart on Monday, April 16 at 7 pm.   For centuries, classical composers have realized a rich source of inspiration in the intrigue, romance, pathos, and whimsy found in a wealth of fairy tales and princess stories. This performance includes Ravel’s Pavanne for a Dead Princess, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz from Sleeping Beauty, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s beloved work, Scheherazade in a performance fit for a king.
