H.A.L.O No-Kill Animal Shelter is holding a special feline adoption event  through Saturday, June 16. All adoption fees will be waived on ANY cat over 1 year old. Riverside Theatre Education: Madagascar JR.  Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime.  Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar JR. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.   Madagascar JR. starring children aged 12 to 18 takes place on June 15 @ 2 pm & 7 pm; June 16 @ 2 pm & 5:30 pm.  Madagascar JR. starring children aged 7 to 11 takes place: on June 29 @ 2 pm & 7 pm; June 30 @ 2 pm & 5:30 pm.  Tickets: $10.

Author Janet Sierzant is coordinating The Writer’s Window Pane, a cold-critique workshop where everyone gets instant constructive feedback on his or her writing, all genres including memoirs, novels and short stories as well as all  levels of experience are welcome.  The workshops are held every Friday from 10 am to noon at 1600 21 Street in Vero Beach.  For more information e-mail Janet at jsierzant@gmail.com.

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will hold Gymnastics and Performing Arts registration on Saturday, June 16 beginning at 8 am at Leisure Square Fitness Center (3705 16th Street). ECO Talks at the Environmental Learning Center continues on Saturday, June 16 at 11 am with Shari Blisset titled “The Fascinating World of Bats”.  Free with general admission.

Enjoy the state’s largest collection of waterlilies at McKee Botanical Garden’s Annual Waterlily Celebration on Saturday, June 16 from 8:30 am to 2 pm. The day’s events include repotting demonstrations, a plant sale, vintage home and Garden accents and the annual waterlily photo contest. Summer Admission: $10 Adults, $9 Seniors, $5 Children ages 3-12. McKee members and children under 3 free.
SUNDAY, JUNE 17

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will open their 2018-19 Tenth Anniversary season with On Broadway at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 17 at the Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street.  Selections from the greatest musicals of stage and screen will be represented, including The King and I, Hamilton, Phantom of the Opera, South Pacific, Chicago, Beauty and the Beast and Grease. Featured will be a special suite of music from The Beatles, which includes hits such as “All My Loving,” “All You Need is Love,” “Blackbird,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “Come Together,” “If I Fell,” “Lady Madonna,” “Let It Be,” “Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da,” “Something,” “Yesterday,” and more. $25 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at the beachside and mainland branches of Marine Bank & Trust.  Tickets at the door are $30.  On Broadway is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID.

The Vero Beach Elks Lodge,  1350 26th Street is holding its 8th Annual Fathers Day Car Show from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday, June 17.  There will be 50/50, Raffle Drawings, Rock & Roll, Food and Awards.  On-site registration, $20, from 8 am to 10 am.  Goodie Bags will be given to the first 80 people to register. Beginning on Tuesday, June 19, the Vero Beach Museum of Art is hosting its Summer Sci-Film Series in conjunction with the summer exhibition Astronomy Photographer of the Year.  Shows start at 5:30 pm.  The line up is: A Space Odyssey (June 19); Moon (June 26); WALL-E (July 10); In the Shadow of the Moon (July 17); and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (July 24). Museum members are free, non-members attend with paid admission to the Museum.
