ON EXHIBIT AT THE VERO BEACH MUSEUM OF ART

The Vero Beach Museum of Art features over 50 celestial photographs in Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibit on view through September 16th.  View entries in categories such as aurorae, galaxies, moon, sun, people and space, planets, comets and asteroids, skyscapes, and stars and nebulae from around the world.  Post-War Impressions: Printmaking in the United States after World War II is on view through September 23 and features a selection from the museum’s collection of post-war American prints, with works by artists such as Romare Bearden, Alexander Calder, Jasper Johns, and Andy Warhol.  150 Years of Painting and Sculpture from the Permanent Collection rounds out the exhibits with American 20th century art and global contemporary art from the museum’s collection including portraiture, landscape, still life, and abstraction.  Admission is: Members, Children 17 yrs & under and Active military (with a valid ID) are free.  Adults: $10; Seniors (65yrs+): $9; and Students with ID: $5.

 

GET SOME FRESH AIR!

The Environmental Learning Center’s pontoon boat tour cruise takes you by Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and mangrove islands where birds, manatees, and dolphins gather. The ELC’s naturalist guide provides education through commentary and suggests ways to positively impact the Indian River Lagoon. Pontoon Boat Excursion days & times are Wednesdays 9:30 am to 11:30 am and  Saturdays 9:30 am to 11:30 am.  Call (772) 589-5050  x 114 to reserve.

Walk the shady trails of McKee Botanical Garden and view the exhibition, “It’s a Jungle Out There” featuring 24 beautiful sculptures hand-crafted specifically for McKee.  Have lunch at the Sealantro Garden Cafe.  Hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday from Noon – 5:00 pm.

Head north on A-1-A to Sebastian Inlet State Park to enjoy the beach, bring a picnic lunch or visit the Fishing Museum and McLarty Treasure Museum – both are open daily from 10 am to 4 pm.  During the month of July, Sea Turtle Walk Programs are held every night at 8 pm from Friday – Tuesday (Reservations for Turtle Walks are required by calling (321) 984-4852.)

BEAT THE HEAT WITH SUMMER CLASSES!

The Sebastian River Art Club offers classes in oil, acrylic and watercolor painting on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings 9:00 am – noon at the Art Center, 1245 Main Street in Sebastian.  Visit SebastianRiverArtClub.com for details.

Work independently and share with other artists at the Vero Beach Museum of Art’s Painting Studio beginning on July 18.  Classes meet on Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 pm through August 15.  All classes include positive critiques to increase skills and enjoyment.  $125/$145 for the series.  Visit VeroBeachMuseum.org.

Michael Clifford, Jr. and Jayne McAllister of Sealantro are holding cooking classes at McKee Botanical Garden every Saturday  from 2:00 to 3:30 pm beginning on July 7th.  Choose from a variety of healthy dishes!  Visit McKeeGarden.org for details.

DOWNTOWN FRIDAY

Have some fun at Downtown on Friday, June 29 from 6 to 9 pm to enjoy music, food, drinks, kids’ activities, and support Main Street Vero Beach’s local charity of the month. Live music will be performed by The Jacks Band.  In addition, a Family Friendly Bike ride is scheduled each Downtown Friday evening with the Vero Beach Cycling Club. Location: 14th Avenue in Historic Downtown Vero Beach. This Event is FREE to attend.

SATURDAY, JUNE 30

KICK OFF YOUR 4TH OF JULY WEEK WITH BURGERS & BREWS!

United Against Poverty presents Burgers & Brews – An American Heritage Celebration street festival open to the public from 1 to 9 pm on Saturday, June 30 in downtown Vero Beach in front of the Heritage Center. Live music featuring Ballyhoo!, East Harbor and Ladies of Soul will be playing throughout the day and night. Specialty cuisine, variety of brews, family-friendly games, local street vendors, a local celebrity dunk tank and free lawn seating will be available for guests to enjoy as well as an interactive kid zone.  Get a punch card ($25) to sample up to 5 sliders created by competing chefs, accompanied by two beverages and the right to cast one vote for the “Peoples Choice” Best Burger in Indian River County. The Best Burger Competition will be held from 1 to 4 pm. In addition, a VIP section, open from 1 to 9 p.m., will be inside the Heritage Center and will feature a complimentary Bloody Mary bar, a variety of local craft brews and soft drinks for $100 per person.  Online and at the event, $10 tickets to win a drawing for a round trip flight for two from Vero Beach to Newark, NJ via Elite Airways will be available.  For tickets call 772-770-0740 and ask for Staci or purchase them on Eventbrite through the website, www.BurgersAndBrews.org.  Tickets must be purchased by Friday, June 29 at 5 pm.

Wednesday, August 8 beginning at 5:30 pm, support our young veterans by purchasing original art at A Bond Unbroken Art Auction at the Heritage Center.

Sunday, August 12 is the date for this year’s Summerfest Concert at Christ by the Sea United Methodist Church.  Meeting with students 1:30 pm and concert at 3 pm.

Tuesday, September 11 is the distribution of 2018-19 Arts & Cultural Guide during Art of Networking at Blue Star Brassiere, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
