WEDNESDAY , JULY 11 – FRIDAY, JULY 13
World-class musicians from around the country have been gathering in Vero Beach to perform together in one-of-a-kind collaborations at the invitation of the Mike Block String Camp, held annually at First Presbyterian Church. The Vero Beach Music Festival features Americana, Bluegrass, Brazilian, Celtic, Folk, Jazz, Pop, Rock, World Music, and more and will be held from July 11 through 14. Live public performances will be on Wednesday, July 11 and Friday, July 13 at 7:30 pm with 15 musicians. On Saturday, July 14 at 3 pm, students of the Mike Block String Camp will perform and there will be a barn dance. All performances are free, however, donations to the Mike Block String Camp Scholarship Fund would be gratefully accepted.
THURSDAY, JULY 12
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Social Justice Committee is hosting a School Board Candidate Forum on Thursday, July 12 at 6 pm at the Emerson Center, 1590 27th Avenue in Vero Beach. Candidates who have agreed to participate are Martha Schiff (District 1); Ruben Bermudez, Jr., Devon Michelle Dupius, Merchon D. Green, Jacqueline Rosario (District 2) and Teri L. Barenborg, Randy Heimler, Stacey Lynn Klim (District 4). All are welcome.
Meet the Artists currently exhibiting in the Foyer Gallery of Art and the Lobby of the Emerson Center on Thursday, July 12th from 4-6 pm. In the Lobby of the Emerson Center, there are four large oil paintings by Annette Winkler. Her new paintings are large, colorful and stylized. In the Foyer Gallery is artwork by Ida Y Robles whose work is figurative with an emphasis on portraits.

It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing! The Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra presents a swinging summer concert featuring music of the 1920’s through today, highlighting the evolution of the Big Band Sound. The music and dance exhibition gets underway at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 15 at Community Church of Vero Beach, 1901 23rd Street. Jazz Trombone Professor at Valencia College, Frank Wosar leads some of Florida’s finest jazz musicians performing works by Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Henry Mancini, Thelonious Monk, Glenn Miller, John Williams and other greats. Musical highlights include “Second Time Around,” “Song of India,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Georgia on My Mind,” and “Haitian Fight Song.” New Zealand dance sensation and Walt Disney World choreographer, Joanne Collins, will team up with fellow cast member Brett Gunio to perform a variety of dance numbers alongside the jazz orchestra. $25 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org. Tickets at the door are $30. Big Band Sound is free for those aged 18 and under or with a student ID.

The Galleries at First Pres present members and friends of First Presbyterian Church to display samplings of their artwork in a Summer Art Fair. Up to nine different artists will be featured in the exhibits running until September 30. An opening reception will be held Sunday, July 15 from 3 pm to 5 pm throughout the campus of First Presbyterian Church at 520 Royal Palm Boulevard in Vero Beach. Anne Malsbary’s nature photography will be prominently displayed in the lobby of the Center for Christian Life as the featured artist for the show. She enjoys traveling the world taking mostly nature photographs. Among the exhibitors are Galleries at First Pres curator, Peter Coe, still life and scenic painter, Catherine Reichert, and award-winning artists Pat DeRobertis and Tom Peters. Regular viewing hours are daily from 12 pm to 3 pm, Monday through Thursday. Guided tours are available Wednesdays between 3 pm and 5 pm. Admission is free.

WINE & DINE TO SUPPORT THE CULTURAL ARTS VILLAGE!
The Cultural Council of Indian River County invites everyone to attend a special fundraiser for the Cultural Arts Village on Tuesday, July 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This festive event will be held at Post & Vine, 1919 14th Avenue in the Art District in Vero Beach. Tickets ($75) entitle visitors to appetizers, buffet dinner and dessert as well as two alcoholic beverages. Bar Service will also be available. DJ Ed Meade will entertain and sketch artist Rebecca Holland will be on hand. There will also be a silent auction. The event will be in an outdoor covered area at Post & Vine. The proceeds will fund the Arts Village’s improvement such as tree beautification, street lights, street signs, street art projects and city planning. “Reel in Summer” at the Vero Beach Museum of Art on Tuesday, July 17 with the film, “In the Shadow of the Moon” at 5:30 pm. Arrive early to view the exhibition, Astronomy Photographer of the Year. View entries in categories such as aurorae, galaxies, moon, sun, people and space, planets, comets and asteroids, skyscapes, and stars and nebulae from around the world. Museum members are free, non-members attend with paid admission to the Museum.
