Last week the Vero Beach City Council agreed with former candidate Linda Hillman to settle her suit against the City and City Canvassing Board for disqualifying her as a candidate in the November 6 election. No party in the suit admits fault and the City agreed to pay for a special election that will be held on February 26. Only the original six candidates will be on the ballot: Tony Young, Laura Moss, Linda Hillman, Robert McCabe, Brian Heady and Robert Brackett.
In a normal year, we would have a new City Council right now. But this is not a normal year, and no, we do not have a new City Council right now. Many voters are unhappy about it and rightfully so – they performed their civic duty and voted. Now they have to vote again. So why did this happen?
We will explore the circumstances surrounding this unprecedented (for Vero Beach) event with an in-depth report within the next 24 hours.
