The A.E. Backus Gallery & Museum in Fort Pierce is exhibiting the glass works of famed artist Dale Chihuly and Florida-based next-generation master Marlene Rose through December 30.  Hours are Wednesday – Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM; Sunday, 12 Noon to 4 PM (closed Monday-Tuesday). Admission is $5 per person; AARP, AAA, and Veterans with appropriate ID receive a $2 discount. Students with school ID, children under 18, active duty military, and current members are always free.

Howl at The Moon – Winter Nights – Ugly Sweater Holiday Party! Wear your most horrendous, awful Christmas sweater to this Ugly Sweater Bash! The uglier, the better because your crime against fashion gives you the chance to win a prize for ugliest sweater! Musicians are Rhoda Johnson & Ken Gustafson with a guest musician on Percussion. Riverside Theatre for Kids – Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas: Emmet and Ma Otter are very poor, but they are very happy and talented singers. Christmas is around the corner, and they both want to get the other a very special present. The prize in the talent show is $50. Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol will be performed at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, December 7 – 9.  Nothing less than an anthem to human nature, to imagination, and to the wonder of a compelling story told by a wondrous storyteller, Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol is the perfect way to begin the holiday season. The Sebastian River High School will perform its annual Prism Concert on December 7, 8 & 9 at the SRHS performing Arts Center. The 2-hour concert showcases the talents of the Concert Bands, Jazz Band, the Flag and Dance Line and the SRHS Choral Program.  For tickets & times, visit:

Between the Lines exhibition by Rita Barone.

The Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24 Street presents the crystalline abstractions of Rita Barone (at left) on view through December. Her exhibition is titled Between the Lines. Main Street Vero Beach presents Julie Hewitt.  The Artists Guild Gallery presents guest artist, Witha Lacuesta.   Flametree Clay Gallery’s theme is That’s a Wrap, featuring clay art that is boxed and ready to gift.  A special exhibition of 3-dimensional butterflies painted by local artists for the Vero Beach Cultural Arts Village will be on view next to the Masonic Lodge at the corner of 14th Avenue & SR 60 east.  Afterward, the butterflies will be on view throughout the Village.

The Laura Riding Jackson Foundation is hosting poet Cherie Clark who has several chapbooks published in national publications such as Metonym Literary Journal and the Lindenwood Review.  Meet the poet on Friday, December 7 from 5 to 8 pm at the Laura Riding Jackson Writing Center, 1914 14th Street in Vero Beach.

The Pelican Island Audubon Society will show a movie titled Renewal on Friday, December 7 from 6 to 9 pm at the Audubon House, 195 9th Street SE, Vero Beach.  The film includes eight stories that represent the growing  religious-environmental movement. Each story is set in a different religious tradition, addressing a different environmental concern.  Free.


Community Church of Vero Beach presents Noel – Noel, a Christmas Celebration on Sunday, December 9 at 7 pm.  This Christmas gift to the community celebrates the sounds of Christmas with the Community Church Chancel Choir, Vero Beach Choral Society, Tapestry Brass, Atlantic Ringers, and pianists Rochelle Sallee and Jacob Craig to ring in the holiday season.  Free.  Tickets not required.

On Sunday December 9th at 2:00 pm at Temple Beth Shalom, 365 43rd Avenue in Vero Beach, attend a presentation by noted author Kurt Wallach. Kurt will review his two books on the Holocaust, 2016’s The Killing of the Jews and the recently published Murder Beyond Madness. Kurt will also speak about his father’s recognition of the danger of Adolph Hitler and the rise of Nazism and his decision to covertly move his family to America in 1936.  Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, donations will be accepted.

The Indian River Genealogical Society is having its annual holiday celebration following its 10 am meeting on Tuesday December 11 at the Indian River County Main Library.  Enjoy  delicious goodies as a dozen IRGS members display a special keepsake connected to their family’s history and share its story.
