Classes are offered at many of the Cultural Council member galleries as well as the Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Sebastian River Art Club for your creative friends.  A variety of classes are offered at McKee Botanical Garden,  the Environmental Learning Center,  Pelican Island Audubon Society’s Audubon House,  The Center for Spiritual Care, the North Indian River County Library and Riverside Theatre.  Check out “Members Offering Classes” on the website for more.

There are several art exhibits to see before the end of the month when most exhibits change.  Take an hour or two to visit a gallery or specialty a gift shop in the downtown arts district.  Check out the Indian River Citrus Museum at the Heritage Center or the Gift Shops at McKee or the ELC.  Beachside, visit the Museum Store at the Vero Beach Museum of Art or tour the exhibit at JM Stringer Gallery of Fine Art.  In Fort Pierce, visit the AE Backus Gallery & Museum or Seriously Mixed Media.


Main Street Vero Beach is having an Ugly Sweater Holiday Party from 5:30 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 20 at the Ponce De Leon Salon, 2130, Ponce De Leon Circle. Enjoy food, wine and other drinks, along with music to dance the night away!  Come dressed in your best ugly sweater or tacky holiday attire! We will have prizes for winners.  RSVP


The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will proudly present Christmas Road Trip, an original performing arts holiday production on Thursday & Friday, December 20 & 21 at 6 pm at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center. Over 200 gymnastics and performing arts students from the Aerial Antics Youth Circus program will perform in this heart–warming holiday show about three sisters on a road trip to their Grandparents’ home and their magical encounters along the way.  Christmas Road Trip combines beautiful dance routines, amazing aerial acts, gymnastics, and acrobatics into the holiday-themed story line. Tickets are available at Leisure Square and Riverside Racquet Complex or they can be purchased at the door. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children and seniors.


Take a Sunset Holiday Lights Canoe Trip at the Environmental Learning Center on December 21 or 22 at 5 pm. You won’t want to miss this once-a-year evening canoe trip under the beautiful mangrove tunnels lit with holiday lights! It’s truly a special Florida-style evening during the holiday season!  Cost: $15 Adults & Children over 12. $7.50 Children ages 8 to 11. Must wear close-toed water shoes for your protection.  Visit


Gather the family to celebrate the season at McKee Botanical Garden with a rare opportunity to enjoy the Garden illuminated at night during Holidays at McKee.  McKee’s majestic palms and pathways will once again be adorned with thousands of colorful lights, whimsical lanterns and holiday décor on display.  Holidays at McKee is from December 21 through December 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The annual tradition of Holidays at McKee features the music of a 1924 Wurlitzer vintage band organ, an ever-expanding model train display, Department 56 holiday village display and photo opportunity with Santa and Mrs. Claus. A wide variety of holiday gifts will be available in McKee’s Garden Gift & Book Shop and the Garden Café will offer a special holiday menu of festive treats. A schedule of special entertainment during Holidays at McKee will feature the Imagine School Tangerine Music Group on December 21, McKee Melody Makers on December 22, and April French of Lady Sings the Blues Band on December 23.



Seriously Mixed Media, 207 Orange Avenue in Fort Pierce, will have musical Entertainment  during Art Walk on Friday, December 21 from 5 to 8 pm.  Make sure to see the creative works from the Gallery partners and visit the downtown galleries & restaurants.


The Night Sounds Concert Series at Sebastian Inlet State Park will be held  on Saturday, December 22 from 7 to 9 pm.  Featured is the 15-piece  20th Street Jazz Band that plays traditional jazz, swing and dance favorites.   They play the music from the big band era, but also play more recent tunes arranged for big bands.  Their concerts provide unlimited fun and irresistible rhythm that brings out big smiles and get the dancers up and “cutting the rug.”  The concert will take place at the pavilions on Coconut Point, located on the south side of Sebastian Inlet.  The concert is free with regular park entry fees.


On Sunday, December 23, 2018, the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach will present a cantata for Christmas entitled, Appalachian Winter. Performances will take place during the 9 am and 11 am services.  Composed in the spirit of folk music, the cantata combines traditional sounds with more rustic elements creating a blend that is fresh and pleasing. Popular American carols like Away In a Manger and O Little Town of Bethlehem dance with traditional spirituals such as Children, Go Where I Send Thee and Go, Tell It on the Mountain. Sacred Harp tunes are re-tooled for Advent and stand alongside new versions of Shaker hymns and Appalachian melodies.


The Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce presents the State Ballet Theatre of Russia performing The Nutcracker on December 26 at 7 pm.  This company of 60 distinguished dancers has showcased the unparalleled art of Russian ballet to countries throughout the world. First class dancers perform leaps and spectacular turns in The Nutcracker. Families will enjoy this Holiday performance with magical toys, falling snow, growing Christmas trees, and astounding ballet moves.  For tickets ($45/$55) visit
