Humane Society Hosts 7th Annual Bark in the Park January 12, 2019

NEWS RELEASE

The Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County (HSVB) will once again reclaim Riverside Park in Vero Beach and declare the day for the dogs on Saturday, January 12, 2019. The event will run from 10 am to 3 pm.

Bark in the Park is a free admission, family fun-fest featuring performances by the world famous Disconnected K-9 Frisbee dogs, the equally impressive Ultimate Diving Dogs and Indian River County’s very own amazing K-9 officers and their partners. Dogs will have an opportunity to run the always- popular lure course and there will be food vendors, merchandise booths and a Kids’ Zone.

Making their Bark in the Park debut this year will be the Humane Society’s new Mobile Adoption Unit funded by the Indian River Community Foundation. Also featured for the first time is HSVB’s Play Dogs Play group. The Play Dogs Play program is run by experienced HSVB behavioral staff, assisted by trained volunteers. This new initiative teaches dogs social skills, evaluates and reduces challenging behaviors, and helps dogs get adopted more quickly. Demonstrations of Play Dogs Play will feature shelter dogs. HSVB will also have dogs available for adoption to go home the same day. For a list of animals currently available for adoption at the Humane Society visit https://www.hsvb.org/adopt.html

Thousands of pet lovers attend Bark in the Park every year and everyone is welcome to bring well-behaved dogs on a (non-retractable) leash. No admission fee is charged but donations are encouraged. All proceeds benefit the homeless, abandoned and surrendered animals. Donations of dog food will be accepted by the Love for Paws Sanctuary – a local pet food bank.
