Embracing Peace by Seward Johnson.

On Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14, McKee Botanical Garden will offer a special BOGO admission all day from 10 am to 5 pm. Visitors can get one free admission for each paid admission during this time frame.  View Seward Johnson’s Celebrating the Familiar sculpture exhibition featuring his 25 ft. tall Embracing Peace sculpture and twenty life-scale bronze figures.  Visitors can have a professional photo taken by Phil Reid of Phil Reid Photography for $25 from 12 pm to 3 pm in front of the sculpture and then McKee will be taking a group photo at 2 pm with all the couples kissing of those who wish to participate in this “Flash mob” style “Kiss-In”.  Guests are welcome to come as you are or can come dressed in costume to replicate the exact image of the sailor and One of America’s iconic historical figures speaks to us across the decades when touring actress Jane VanBoskirk presents Across a Barrier of Fear: The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt. VanBoskirk will perform her solo, documentary play on Thursday, February 14 at 2 pm in the North Indian River County Library. Admission is free.  Refreshments will be served.

One of America’s iconic historical figures speaks to us across the decades when touring actress Jane VanBoskirk presents Across a Barrier of Fear: The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt. VanBoskirk will perform her solo, documentary play on Thursday, February 14 at 2 pm in the North Indian River County Library. Admission is free.  Refreshments will be served.

The Senior Resource Association’s Silver Tones Choir will be performing the annual Valentines Concert, “Heart & Soul” on Thursday, February 14 at 7:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church in Vero Beach.

The J.M. Stringer Gallery presents Essential Gestures, featuring André Lucero (at right) and Richard Oversmith (at left). These two painters rely on brushstrokes, marks, and gestures to conceptualize and compose their works. Attend the opening receptions, Thursday, February 14 (4 to 8 pm), Friday, February 15 (11 am – 6 pm) and Saturday, February 16 (11 am to 6 pm).    Richard Oversmith will demonstrate  on Friday at 1 pm and Andre Lucero will demonstrate on Saturday at 1 pm.

The A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery in Fort Pierce hosts the Highwaymen Weekend Celebration on Friday, Saturday & Sunday, February 15 – 17.  Dealers on the Outdoor Mural Plaza will offer vintage Highwaymen paintings for sale all weekend.  On Friday, the Artists of Color opening reception will be held at the  Museum (Members Free, Not-Yet Members $20) with a lecture by Roger Lightle, noted collector and guest curator of the exhibition (6 to 7 pm), Reception and meet the artists (7 to 8 pm).  On Saturday,  Gallery Talks (11 am, 1 pm & 3 pm).  Gallery Talks (1:00 pm & 3:00 pm).

FLORIDA CRAFT BREW & WINGFEST

Sunrise Rotary Vero Beach presents the 8th Annual Florida Craft Brew and Wingfest on Saturday, February 16 at Royal Palm Pointe from 11:30 am to 4 pm.   Taste over 250 craft beers and sample wings from 20 contestants vying for best wings in Vero.  There will be 4 bands on 2 stages for all day entertainment. Home brewers will bring over 20 brews to sample and there will be draft trucks offering your favorite brands of beer as well.  Tickets: FloridaCraftBrewAndWingfest.com.

Author Ardi Schneider will give a Power Point Presentation on Saturday, February 16 at 11:00 am at the Vero Beach Book Center.  The presentation includes choice pages from her book, Anatoly Anole, The Boastful Brown Lizard, along with additional information on lizards in Florida and experiments done on the little creatures.  The the first 5 kids who bring in an Anole (in a container, of course) will get a free book!

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 16 & 17

The Garden Club of Indian River County hosts its 21st Annual Antique & Vintage Show and Sale on Saturday and Sunday, February 16 & 17 at the Garden Club, 2526 17th Avenue, Vero Beach. Admission is $2.00.  In addition to antiques, there will be plants and flowers for sale as well as white elephant treasures. Lunch, catered by “Wood N Spoon,” can be enjoyed on the patio in a beautiful garden setting.

The  Treasure Coast Rock & Gem Society’s 43rd Annual  Gem & Jewelry show will be held at the Vero Beach Community Center on Saturday (10 -5) and Sunday (10 – 4), February 16 & 17. Enjoy Hourly Raffle Prizes, Demonstrations, Beads-Supplies-Jewelry, Minerals-Rocks, Gems-Pearls-Opals, Guest Treasure Diver Presentation and a Book signing.  $5.00 Admission.

The  Foyer Gallery of Art at the Emerson Center is hosting Meet the Artists reception on Sunday, February 17 from 1 to 3 pm.  The All Around the Town exhibit is a Centennial event featuring the artwork of a dozen local artists.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19

Transparent Waters: The History and Significance of Florida’s Springs will be presented by Tom Berson, Ph.D. as part of the Florida Humanities Speaker Series on Tuesday, February  19 at 2 pm at the A.E. Backus Museum & Gallery in Fort Pierce. This talk examines how Florida’s springs were—and still are—symbolic representations of natural Florida, and how they continue to stand at the critical and fragile intersection with growth and development.
