IRSC Health Information Technology Program Now Accepting Applicants, Prerequisite Classes Available this Spring

The application period for the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at Indian River State College (IRSC) is now open, and there is still time for students to register for pre-requisite courses during the Spring and Summer semesters. IRSC if offering a Medical Terminology class (HSC2531) online starting March 4, and Survey of the Human Body class (BSC1084) starts this Summer (dates to be announced).

 Offered through the IRSC Virtual Campus, the HIT program is offered online providing flexibility along with an independent learning environment. Through lectures, virtual labs, and internship opportunities students will master: the medical-legal aspects of patient care; quality improvement and healthcare data analysis; ICD-10 coding; and supervision of health information employees.

 The Health Information Technology career field combines medicine and leading computer technology, and the average starting pay in HIT careers is $16 an hour with the potential to make up to $30 an hour.

 The HIT program starts this Fall on Monday, August 19. Students entering the program must be 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites courses in Medical Terminology and Survey of the Human Body or Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Labs are also required, and applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
