Join Joe Gramm, The Movie Man, at 1:30 on Thursday, May 2 at the North Indian River County Library in Sebastian for Classic Films with a Twist. There will be a full length screening of the 1974 film that gave Ellen Burstyn her Best Actress Oscar and gave Kris Kristofferson his best film role. Admission & refreshments are free. Discussion & Film Trivia Contest with prizes follows the movie.

The Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo have merged to become the Derby de Mayo for one night to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Societies’ Man of the Year nominee Raul Storey, MD from Florida Cancer Specialist and Research Center. Derby de Mayo will be held at Costa d’Este on May 2, from 6 to 9 p.m.  Enjoy Derby and Mexican delights, sip, savor and dance! The First Friday Gallery Stroll will be held on Friday, May 3 from 5 to 8 pm around and along 14th Avenue in downtown Vero Beach.  Here’s a preview:  Raw Space Gallery presents the Indian River Charter High School Juried Student Show during the 5 to 9 pm reception. Gallery 14  presents Artful Animals II. (Image at left  Lila Blakeslee) This show will benefit Indian River Community Cats and Dogs and Cats Forever, A NO Kill Shelter. The Artists Guild Gallery hosts the May Invitational featuring a variety of artwork by local artists.  Main Street Vero Beach presents glass artist, Bill Blazak (at right).  Flametree Clay Gallery’s exhibit, Feel and Form Clay features the clay art of exhibiting artists Jim Cohoe and Katie Santomartino.

The Center for Spiritual Care, 1550 24th Street, is having a special fundraising art sale of a wide variety of artwork recently donated to the Center.  All of the artwork is for sale and will be shown at an opening reception on Friday, May 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and continuing through May.  Please stop by to view this collection and help support the Center’s programs and services.

The Vero Beach Theatre Guild is holding auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS! occurs on Friday (7:00 pm), Saturday (10:00 am), & Sunday, (2:00 pm)- May 3, 4 and 5 at the Indian River Charter High School Black Box Theatre, 6055 College Lane in Vero Beach. Casting needs include 20 Guest Spot/Lead roles and 6-8 person ensemble. Ages are between 16 and 80. Bring a resume and/or headshot. Prepare a 1-2 minute portion of a song of your choice. The Friends of the North Indian River County Library will meet on Monday, May 6, at 11 am, in the small conference room. A Cultural Evening of Art, Performance, & Recognition
