NEW EXHIBITS:

From Enchanted Gardens by Mary Segal.

Art At The Emerson has just opened a new exhibit featuring the artwork of Mary Segal titled Enchanted Gardens featuring colorful mixed media with acrylic paints and dried flowers and leaves (at left).  Also exhibiting are artists, Peg Phenecie and Mark Johnson.  The exhibit will be on view at the Emerson Center through June.  Viewing hours are Monday-Friday  10:00 am to 4:00 pm and  Sunday 10:00 am – 1:00 pm.

The Cultural Council of Indian River County’s Art in Public Places program features a new exhibit opening on Friday, May 10 at the Indian River County Courthouse, 2000 16th Avenue in Vero Beach.  The exhibiting artist is Jemal Hayes (lower right) whose show is titled A Natural State of Awe. View Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8

A Cultural Evening of Art, Performance, & Recognition – 2019 LAUREL AWARDS. Join the Cultural Council of Indian River County on Wednesday, May 8 at 6 pm at Riverside Theatre to enjoy an evening of art & performance as we celebrate the recipients of the 2019 Laurel Awards and their contribution and service to the arts community in Indian River County.  VIP tickets are $75 and include a Cocktail Reception with heavy hors d’oeuvres, the Presentation Program and a champagne toast with dessert.  Tickets for the Presentation Program only are $25.  Visit  RiversideTheatre.com or call the Cultural Council at 772-770-4857.

Afternoon Tea in the Garden.

On Sunday, May 12, McKee Botanical Garden will offer free admission to all mothers with any paid admission to the Garden in celebration of Mother’s Day. All moms, grandmothers, mother-in-laws or someone who is like a mother to you, gets in free!  Enjoy Afternoon Tea in the Garden this Mother’s Day. Sealantro will serve a traditional British afternoon tea at 3:30 pm. The Pelican Island Audubon Society will feature a talk about Indian River County Stormwater Pollution with Alexis Peralta on Monday, May 13 at 6 pm at the North Indian River County Library in Sebastian.  Free.

SUMMER CAMPS

The Pelican Island Audubon Society Summer Adventure Camp includes kayaking, bird watching, wildlife & plant identification, hiking, science education and more.  Mondays-Fridays from 8 am to 3 pm beginning on June 3 through July 26.  Each one week session focuses on a different age group.  Camp is held at Audubon House, 195 Oslo Road, Vero Beach.  Visit PelicanIslandAudubon.org for details.

The Environmental Learning Center offers day camps from Pre-K to  8th Grade Students in June and July with age-appropriate five-day sessions.  Visit DiscoverELC.org for class availability.

The Riverside Theatre For Kids offers Summer Camps where students will develop musical theatre skills, learn to collaborate with others as an ensemble and perform in a showcase. Several camps are offered and designed for ages 5 and up. Tuition scholarship programs are available to provide financial assistance to qualifying students.  Visit RiversideTheatre.com.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art has its popular Summer Art Camp for ages 5- 16 with half and full day sessions from June 3 to August 2. Summer Art Camp is designed to offer an environment for young artists to explore ideas, develop skills, help build self esteem, and encourage creativity through experiencing, making and learning about all aspects of art.  Visit VBMuseum.org for more information.

The Laura Riding Jackson Foundation is sponsoring three, week- long summer camps for Middle School students featuring creative writing activities in the arts including, music, poetry, art, and dance beginning June 10, 17, and 24, Monday through Friday from 9 am to noon at the Writing Center, 1914 14th Avenue in Vero Beach.  For Boys Only: A Summer Camp Slam Dunk! is a week long creative writing camp for boys only beginning on Monday, July 8 that combines creative arts with basketball. The Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce is hosting the Missoula Children’s Theatre Summer Camp.  Each week-long camp culminates in a public performance, starring local children, complete with professionally designed scenery and costumes.  The schedule is:  Jack & The Bean Stalk June 24-28; Pinocchio July 8-12.
