NIGHT AT THE INDIAN RIVER CITRUS MUSEUM

Vero Heritage, Inc. is celebrating Indian River Citrus – an important part of our local history on Thursday, August 22 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm at the Heritage Center.  Meet Miss Florida and see the unveiling of the Vero Heritage Citrus Label Tour and take a tour of the Indian River Citrus Museum.  Enjoy complimentary beer from Orchid Island Brewery and light bites from Edgewood Eatery.  Live bluegrass music will be performed by J.ust A.dd M.usic.  Meet local vendors: Calabros, Glass Bottle Boutique, Keene Lane Co, Keri Keene Art, Shelby’s and Scented Soy Candles.  Visit: VeroHeritage.org.

SATURDAY AUGUST 24

FAMILY FUN AT LEISURE SQUARE!

On Saturday, August 24th from 7 am to 2 pm, the community is invited to a free fun day at the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department’s Leisure Square outdoor activity center, 3705 16th Street.  Families are invited to spend the day taking full advantage of the facility which includes the pool, exercise facility and special programs running for the day!  The morning will start at 7 am with coffee provided by Starbucks.  The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will be serving a hot dog lunch starting at 11 am and an ice cream social will be provided at 1 pm by the Mental Health Association of Indian River County.  Activities include Water Aerobics with J.A.S. Fitness at 9:30 am; Yoga Class with Annie at 10 am; Aerial Antics Youth Circus performance at 10:30 am and Turkey Shoot Basketball (3 point) contest with J.A.S. HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPO AT UNITY

The Sebastian Inlet State Park’s Fishing Museum offers Surf Fishing for Snook on Saturday, August 24 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Discussion will center on several tactics for catching snook in the surf with live bait and lures as well as information on rods/reels, rigging hard, soft plastic lures and live baiting options. Snook season opens September 1. Meet at the Sebastian Fishing Museum inside the park.

The Backus Museum is holding a free entry workshop to give artists guidance on understanding the rules, tips on acceptable framing and presentation, and help to avoid common submission problems when applying for the Best of the Best Juried exhibit. This workshop will be held on Saturday, August 24 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. SUNDAY, AUGUST 25

The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform a free chamber concert,   Tchaikovsky & Brahms, at First Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, August 25 at 3 pm.  The program will feature two popular chamber works: Brahms’ String Quartet No. 2 in A minor and Tchaikovsky’s beloved string sextet, Souvenir de Florence. The Brahms’ work is rhythmically compact and high spirited, ideal for sharing the program with Tchaikovsky’s neo-classical and sunny Souvenir, originally sketched while the composer was visiting Florence, Italy. Community Church of Vero Beach’s Summer Concert Series presents An Afternoon with Rochelle Sallee on Sunday, August 25 at 4 pm.  Rochelle Sallee, pianist, will perform major works and movements by composers Chopin, Beethoven, Grieg, and Schumman with a special appearance by Andrew Galuska.  Tickets are $10 adults and $5 students.  For tickets call 772-778-1070.

FREE SUMMERTIME MOVIE THIS SUNDAY

Free summer movies continue at the Sunrise Theatre in Fort Pierce on Sunday, August 25 at 3 pm with The Big Lebowski starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore. Tickets are available in person only at the theatre’s box office located at 117 South Second Street, Ft. Pierce, 10 am to 2 pm,  Monday through Friday and two hours prior to the movie.  Limit 4 tickets per person.  Tickets are subject to availability.
