TROPICS UPDATE
This is an important message from ALERT Indian River
Tropics Update: September 23, 2019
The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring 3 named storms and 4 tropical waves. According to Philip Klotzback, meteorologist at Colorado State University, this is the most Atlantic Named storms on record between Sept. 14 and Sept. 23.
As expected this time of year, the tropics are busy and I want to urge you to be prepared. The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring the following:
Tropical Storm Jerry
· Located about 345 miles SW of Bermuda and is no threat to Florida.
Tropical Storm Karen
· Located about 255 miles SSE of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
· Max winds: 40 mph.
· Movement: NNW at 12 mph.
· Some strengthening is possible.
· Too early to tell if Karen will have any impacts to Florida. More details will be available Wednesday or Thursday.
· Impacts, if any, are 7 or more days away.
· Continue to monitor the progression of Karen.
Tropical Storm Lorenzo
· Well organized and moving quickly west at 18 mph.
· Forecast to strengthen to a hurricane as it begins a turn to the NW this weekend.
· It’s too early to tell if Lorenzo will be a threat to land.
It’s important to monitor the tropics and be prepared for any further developments that may impact Florida.
