The Vero Beach Museum of Art and the Indian River County Library System is pleased to announce a joint partnership to provide free exhibition admission with the Library Museum Pass Program.  This initiative allows the community the opportunity to visit the VBMA for free by checking out a Library Museum Pass from all branches of the IRC Library System. The pass provides library cardholders free admission for two adults – children under 17 already receive free admission to the museum.

UPCOMING – MULTIPLE DATES IN OCTOBER

Art Works of Vero, 2036 14th Avenue in Vero Beach is offering a variety of classes this month. The Happy Hour Art Parties are held from 5:30 to 7:30 pm:  Draw Portraits Like a Pro (October 18); Acrylic paint you favorite animal (October 24) and Copper Tooling Wall Hangings (October 28).  The cost is  $30.00 per person, all materials included with beverage and light snacks.  For a list of all the available classes, visit artworksofvero.com or call 772-907-5128.

The Fielden Institute for Lifelong Learning at Indian River State College invites the public to its Annual Open House at three different locations and dates this week from 10:00 to 11:30 am each day:  Wednesday, October 16 at Indian River State College- Schreiber Conference Center, 500 N.W. California Blvd. in Port St. Lucie; Thursday, October 17 at Indian River State College- Brown Center for Innovation and Entreprenuership, 3209 Virginia Avenue in Fort Pierce and Friday, October 18 at Indian River State College- Richardson Conference Center, 6155 College Lane in Vero Beach.  Learn more about Fielden’s program with coffee and conversation. Join the Vero Beach Chamber of Commerce for a Casino Cruise on Saturday, October 19.  The bus will board at 8:30 a.m. sharp at the Chamber office located at 1957 14th Avenue (inside the Masonic Lodge). GYMNASTICS REGISTRATION BEGINS SATURDAY

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department will hold gymnastics registration Saturday, October 19th at 8 am. at Leisure Square. There are gymnastics and aerial classes available for beginners through advanced students. This performance-based program offers instruction for toddlers through teens.  Participants ages 3 and older will perform in Christmas Wish List, the City of Vero Beach Recreation Department’s annual holiday production. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20

An opening reception for The Fall 2019 Art Installment at the Galleries at First Pres will be held Sunday, October 20, from 12:30pm to 3:00pm, at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Boulevard, Vero Beach. Featured local artists include May Brandt, Karin Delagi, and Lisa Rose. Tours will be available with an opportunity to meet the artists, and light refreshments will be served. This event is free to the community. The works will be on display from October 7 through January 8.

SCSO CHILLS & THRILLS

 Get in the “spirit” ahead of Halloween, when the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra presents a family-friendly concert of Chills & Thrills at 3:00 pm on Sunday, October 20 at Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.  Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette and Saint-Saens Danse Macabre will send chills up the spine of listeners, with musical thrills from familiar film scores including, Jaws, Beetlejuice, Mars Attacks! and more.  Space Coast Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor, Aaron Collins debuts an exciting new work, Dracula Reimagined. The work is based on his award-winning 1999 composition, The Dracula Suite.  Adding to the concert fun is the hilarious whodunit for the whole family, The Composer Is Dead.  With music by Nathaniel Stookey and text by Lemony Snicket, no one leaves the Concert Hall until this mystery is solved! The very entertaining Central Florida actor, Eric Pinder will narrate.  Adults and children are invited to attend Chills & Thrills in costume and join the costume parade! The concert will be conducted jointly by Aaron Collins and the SCSO Principal Guest Conductor, Michael Hall.  Chills & Thrills is free for kids up to 18 and for college students with a student ID.  $25 advance tickets for adults are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at the orchestra’s official ticket outlet, Marine Bank & Trust, beachside and mainland branches. On Monday, October 21, the Pelican Island Audubon Society meeting topic is Sea Turtles and Indian River County with Quintin Bergman, M.S., Sea Turtle Environmental Specialist, Indian River County Public Works Coastal Division, at the Vero Beach Community Center, 2266 14th Avenue, Vero Beach, starting at 7 pm.  Free.
