The Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC) is preparing for their 22nd Annual Back to School Supply Drive. This summer, students need your help more than ever. With uncertainty looming and many parents displaced from their jobs, purchasing school supplies can present a true challenge. “GYAC’s back to school bash is a way to positively prepare for the best,” said Freddie Woolfork, GYAC’s Director of Public Relations and Facilities Operations.
Supplies such as: backpacks, composition notebooks, rulers, pocket folders, notebook paper, pens, pencils, markers, glue, highlighter, hand sanitizer, notecards, calculators and colored pencils are gratefully accepted. Monetary contributions are also welcome. School supplies will be collected until July 31 at the following locations:
- Gifford Youth Achievement Center
- Disney Resort
- Holy Cross Catholic Church
- Northern Trust Bank
- Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital
- Community Church
- Piper Aircraft
- Living Lord Lutheran Church
- Westminster Presbyterian Church
- School District of Indian River County
- Buddy’s Home Furnishings-Vero Store
- Waste Management
- Exchange Club
- Rotary Club
A drive-thru distribution of supplies will take place at GYAC’s Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 1 in the Gifford Youth Achievement Center’s parking lot at 9am. Supplies are available to students in Indian River County.

The Gifford Youth Achievement Center (GYAC), a 501(c)(3), opened its doors in 1998 with the sole purpose of enhancing the academic performance of children in Indian River County. The nonprofit organization, governed by a volunteer board of directors, focuses on vulnerable students who live in the Gifford community and surrounding municipalities of Indian River County. In addition to year-round educational programs and activities for youth, GYAC provides activities for adults and seniors citizens, such as exercise classes, bible study, and computer and educational training. The Center also hosts job fairs, health clinics, community gatherings and serves as an information hub.
