The Clean Water Coalition of Indian River County (CWC), a 501c3 organization with over 800 partners, is pleased to announce that two members of its leadership are applying for appointment to the Governing Board of the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD). The SJRWMD is an environmental regulatory agency of the state of Florida focused on water quality, water supply, flood protection and natural resource protection.
Our two applicants are Paul Fafeita, current CWC President, and Board Member Bryan Corrigan. Each is uniquely qualified to make informed decisions about our pressing water concerns.
Paul Fafeita grew up in the Vero Beach area. He has been an advocate for the Indian River Lagoon as Treasure Coast Chapter President and State Vice-President of the Coastal Conservation Association and President and co-founder of the CWC. Paul is a Marine Corps veteran and a 30-year veteran of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office. He has operated a local fishing guide business since 2004.
Bryan Corrigan is a 4th generation rancher in Indian River County where his family has raised cattle for over 70 years. He has over 20 years of agricultural, real estate and environmental investment experience and understands the delicate balance between agriculture, water infrastructure, and the environment. He is currently serving on the Boards of CWC and the Indian River Neighborhood Association and is a former Board Member of St. Edwards School and the Florida Association of Mitigation Bankers. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas and earned an M.B.A. from Duke University.
The Clean Water Coalition of Indian River County applauds Governor DeSantis’s reorganization of the South Florida Water Management Governing Board. Now it is time to address the SJRWMD. There are currently 6 vacancies in the 9 seats of the governing board, including an “at large” position. The District covers 18 counties stretching from Jacksonville to Orlando to Vero Beach. Area 5, which includes IRC, has been represented by the same individual since 2008 whose term expired in March 2020 but still serves under an emergency declaration. It is time for Governor DeSantis to put his own stamp on the SJRWMD by appointing qualified individuals to lead this organization vital to Northeast and Central Florida’s waters.
Those individuals wishing to support Paul Fafeita and/or Bryan Corrigan are encouraged to contact Governor DeSantis either by email at GovernorRon.DeSantis@eog.myflorida.com or by calling his office at 850-717-9337.
