NEWS RELEASE

“Don’t let him get away,” said one of the members of the Gifford Youth Orchestra Board of Directors.  It echoed the excitement of all the members when casting their unanimous vote for James Jordan to become a part of the group.  Educator and musician, James Jordan, has joined the board of the Gifford Youth Orchestra (GYO), Crystal Bujol announced today.  Dr. Bujol, the GYO’s chair and Artistic Director, said he “will focus on strengthening the organization’s performance and teaching capacities.”

Jordan was familiar with the Gifford Youth Orchestra from stories in local news sources when Dr. Bujol was a guest speaker at  a Sunrise Rotary meeting and spoke about its musical youth enrichment program. “I was so impressed with her that when I learned that there was an opening on the Board, I jumped at the chance to join,” he said.  “I’ve always been on the lookout for opportunities to help people, especially kids, so it was a natural fit.”

Jordan moved his family to Vero Beach in 2014 to become an employment consultant with Easter Seals Florida, Inc., a job from which he retired in July.  He has been involved in some form of social work and education for 40 years.  He taught music, language arts and math in the Irvington, New Jersey, public school system for 15 years and has also worked in sales and marketing in the business world. A professional trumpet player himself, he is the president and executive director of JTO Entertainment and for the Jordan Thomas Odyssey, a band that has performed in South and Central Florida for the past four years.  The group played at the grand finale of Vero Beach’s Centennial Celebration and can be heard regularly at local country clubs and gathering places, including The Breakers Hotel and the Beach Club, both in Palm Beach.

Because of his love for and experience with planning and producing entertainment events, James immediately joined the Board committee with Mark Wygonik, Jim Parks, and Larry Staley to plan the annual event for the Gifford Youth Orchestra.  Proceeds will be used to purchase instruments, music and supplies for the Gifford Youth Orchestra’s 18th year of providing cultural and performing arts education program for the children of Gifford, Florida, and neighboring communities. This second “Crystal Gazing Celebration” will be held at the Heritage Center in March, 2021.
