Early voting begins tomorrow, October 19. The City Council elections in Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere are non-partisan. In our county, more voters are registered Republicans than Democrats. There was a time not so long ago when the opposite was true, Democrats outnumbered Republicans by a large margin.
The reason these local elections are non-partisan is because many issues are community issues, not national, so voters are free to select the candidates they feel will best serve the community’s needs.
The health of our Indian River Lagoon is, and has in recent years, been the most concerning issue facing our future as a county as well as locally. It is not a partisan issue.
For Vero Beach voters, the other primary issues is the future of Three Corners waterfront properties. The possible outcomes range from keeping it recreational or handing it over to a commercial developer. Most voters are somewhere in the middle, which is why this is a non-partisan, community issue.
